Don't waste your or O2's time any more with this.

You asked. They said no. Game over. Just do what you can to improve your creditworthiness from now until your mortgage application.

I too have an O2 default and I too am saving for a mortgage. I asked them to remove it as a gesture of goodwill, given that I've had no problems since it was imposed nearly 5 years ago now, and they said no. Nothing else I can do about it and I respect their decision. Was my own fault I defaulted.

Suck it up and move on.

You don't get defaults if you pay your bills. Your partner didn't and lenders should know that.

So, you are angry, you are directing your anger at the wrong people.

Direct it at who is originally to blame.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Im on about the system of not being able to get a mortgage due to a very minor settled default on one of the 2 applicants files.

It wasn't just one though, was it?

Have you actually spoken to a mortgage broker to see how much it will affect your chances. If this is the only default you have between both of you and is was settled 3 yrs ago all may not be lost.

But no point getting !!!!ed off with O2 they are only doing there job.

Yes, that was removed as it was pretty much erroneous and isn't an issue any more.
Any if anything proves that it can be removed, but O2 are being an !!!! about it.

O2 are simply reporting accurate data.

Why should they remove it? The default is valid.

So what you're saying is that when you proved yourself unable to keep up payments on a minor credit agreement, for a small amount of money, a lender should just assume that a major agreement for a large amount of money will be fine?
Your method for managing credit histories is the one that's a sham - if you want a lender to believe that you're credit worthy, then manage your credit in a way that shows it.

Adamck i feel for you mate, but it shouldn't be too much of a prob getting a mortgage if you speak to a mortgage broker, there's loads of them on this website! the only downside is your interest rate will be a tad higher then others with a perfect credit rating but you'll still be able to get a mortgage. I'd think there will be a few mortgage brokers on here who can get you a mortgage, just ask them :)
  • One default from 3 years ago will not stop you getting a mortgage. If you use a whole of market broker, provided that you have otherwise good credit and are ok on affordability, you will be ok.

Just need to use a broker that will check all the criteria and match you to the right one. I got a mortgage with a default. My lender had criteria of allowing one default over 3 years old that was less than £500. Plus if you have a good LTV, then pretty much anything is possible. So, no need to get angry about correct reporting, just work round it.
