TV Aerial Company/Aerialforce

Hello MSE members.
I live near a block of flats, mostly occupied by the older generation, some of whom are friends of mine.
Yesterday morning I got a call to see if I could help as their television seemed to have stopped working.
I went round and quickly established that the problem was not with the tv but with the aerial.
Another residents tv was also not working so it was clearly a common problem.
I had a little poke about but couldn't see anything that struck me as the problem.
I had to go to work and said they'd need a tv cable installer.
Unfortunately the people they found but failed to check on were TV Aerial Company ltd aka Aerialforce of Whytleafe in Surrey.
I rang back later to see how things had gone and damn near fell over with shock.
The "engineer" diagnosed that the problem was a faulty amplifier and had installed another one.
Total cost of the work to include the amplifier and 1.5 hours work......£778!
I looked online and to the general public the amplifier he fitted is £107 inc VAT, maximum!
Is there anything they can do?
They were quoted beforehand, i.e. within the 1.5 hours from first visit to leaving with the job completed.
They paid by Debit card.
On the receipt they mention the right to cancel the contract but costs will be payable by the customer.
So even if they did come round and remove the amplifier, they may well end up charging more on top for the extra work involved, or am I wrong on that?
Does the 7 day cancellation right apply and would they be entitled to a complete refund?
I've tried to instil suspicion in these folk but they still believe traders are largely honest as those are the values they grew up with.
Sadly, as we know, that is not the case.
When I Googled the name, the top hit was Watchdog!
Enough said!
