dog castration

I very reluctantly got my 5 year old dog castrated a couple of months ago. His main problem was aggression towards other male dogs. If another male dog tried to get on his back, all hell broke loose.
My dog wouldn't just see it off, he wanted to kill it and my nerves were shattered with him.
many people said castration wouldn't work - but it has. He's changed beyond belief. He is no longer targeted by other aggressive dogs and even if one does try to start a fight, my dog just walks away.
A miracle indeed!
He'd also been a bit territorial with my son's male dog. Not aggressive, but marking. That's all stopped too, and he just wants to play now. And so far, he hasn't put an ounce on.
So I'd say to the OP, get your dog done. I'm sure he will be all the better for it.
that is great news zaksmum - I was hoping you would update your thread when you felt ready!
I would speak to your vet OP - and take their advice. but, my own feeling is that this probably would benefit your dog.0 -

That's a fantastic deal . I haven't decided wether to get ours done yet but he's almost 18 months and I have decided if I do I will wait til he is 2. I was showing him which meant he couldn't be neutered but not sure if I want to carry on with the showing, will see how things go when the better weather comes.
I'm central Scotland too, hopefully another deal with come up if I decide to go for it !0 -

The face! The eyes! He's beautiful! Very similar eyes to Pipsqueak (she's got an ounce of Dachs in her).
Good luck with the op, I'm sure he'll be fine

he is gorgeous - but I am a little bit nervous around Dachshunds - that is the only breed which has ever bitten me on purpose. I was a child then and at nearly 60 now - I still have the scar!
oh and it was only because I tried to stroke it!0 -
