PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. I got blocked from posting on there too. I only ever had one account on HPC (username Wig) and never knowingly trolled or flamed, and certainly wasn't posting 'from financial institutions ramping the market'.
I did however once dare to challenge Bruce Banner regarding his repetitive mantra of 'illiquid depreciating asset' and was muted almost immediately so I suspect he was the one responsible for my posting privileges being revoked. I find HPC a fantastic source of knowledge and individual thought which is vital to form a rounded informed opinion on any subject. However whoever is responsible for this heavy handed approach, is not doing the site any favours by censoring dissenting views to theirs. Confirmation bias, echo chamber, call it what you will. Its detrimental to the site and will ultimately end up with Bruce Banner agreeing with himself on there. Ridiculous.
Crashy, Damik (keep up the great work on the prime London thread btw) please could you drop the mods a line on HPC and ask them to unlock my account. I would like to contribute to the forum. Thanks.0 -

Hahahaha thanks0 -
Just ignore them - they're idiots. I remember going on there around 10 years ago (ish) and they were trotting out all the same old nonsense then. What made me really laugh is when their predicted 'crash' did sort of happen in 2008 they still couldn't get on the housing ladder as they couldn't get a mortgage - hilarious.
They are a very, very sad bunch of people (that's being polite;)).0 -

I agree, it is a great source of information and has some interesting views (if you ignore the nutters who see nothing other than HPC). But shutting down any dissenting views is definitely not the way to go.
If any posters on that site are under any illusion that there is active, consistent, draconian and agressive moderation taking place then they are very foolish. I bet half the members on HPC have had their postings rights withdrawn.0 -
I really aimed my comment at the entire HPC massive which has been spouting the same rubbish since 2004. I am confident that many people over those ten years have been influenced by HPC.co.uk in their financial decisions. I know some personally.
Too late for what?
Too late to retain your grasp on reality. People are not buying because HOUSES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE. It is not down to reading the HPC website. How many people do you think actually read it anyway?0 -

Can you substantiate your comment? Prices wouldn't rise if there was no demand. FTB maybe, for the rest it's all relative.
I'm a person, I buy and sell houses quite frequently0 -
They might be about to have their day, but that site is not run properly.
I got kicked off for nothing (as far as I can tell).0 -

Just a bump on this because I'm now one of the banned on housepricecrash (hpc). My username there was MarkWeston and I had the gall to suggest that prices may not fall 50% by sentiment alone. I joined HPC because, sorry to say, most other discussions on property are heavily loaded with those who don't examine the causes of house prices rises but only believe HPI is an intrinsic rule of the universe, requiring no explanation. I had hoped to have some more balanced discussion with the people there.
Turns out, HPC was no different, they believe HPC is an intrinsic rule of the universe requiring no explanation.
So a process of darwinian selection is at play. If you dare to dissent even slightly, you're banned (posts require moderation) so that the only voices you'll ever really hear there are those of the extreme kind.
So crashy time, damik, and whoever else reads this, enjoy your delusion of superiority. Because it is a delusion, you're no different from any other group that doesn't tolerate a different view, EVEN if that view mostly agrees with yours.
Also, many of them are just plain rude and unpleasant people.0 -

*really*??!!
I for one have enjoyed reading your posts on there, don't see you as a troll in anyway whatsoever, don't recall any inflammatory posts or remarks, and am sad to see you go.
I will be asking the moderators for a reason.0
