My Dad loves it when I get him a calendar with pictures of the grandchildren on it. Books, DVDs, socks etc. Or a day out/experience such as a restaurant voucher or telling him we will take him to a particular place when he visits next.1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

I bought my dad a handmade bird box, I found the bloke on faceb0ok, he gathers driftwood and makes them all himself. The one I have has a wood spirit face carved on the front, its a really lovely bit of craft and it cost me £20 delivered
My dad loves his garden so will be thrilled with it

My father is also a nightmare with a Boxing Day birthday - doesn't like sports, doesn't watch DVDs, doesn't play an instrument, doesn't read, doesn't like clothes, shouldn't drink, doesn't garden, doesn't do smelliest and isn't a foodie. I bought him a Galaxy tab last year but not sure if he still uses it. He's a bit of a techie but now my ex is no longer in the picture there's no one to set these things up! This year, I'm thinking socks, a laptop bag and something else...House Fund: £2,800/£20,000 - 14%

Ive given up buying actual presents for my OH and the kids don't bother either, too many years of him saying I don't want anything and having no hobbies, plus if we bought him chocolates or sweets he moaned about us not spending enough , so....... what I do now is a few days before xmas or as near to his birthday as possible he books a day off work and we go on a daytrip of his choosing , usually to the same place as he likes to look around bookshops/antique shops. This doesn't cost a penny and is something he loves to do . He could literally spend all day browsing so we go to a place that has 6 antique shops and is a very quaint place also. We stop for a slap up meal somewhere which I pay for and also stop for a costa coffee break. He loves it, no more agonising over what to get him. Similarly my son and daughters take him down the pub and buy him a few pints or take him out for a sunday carvery followed by a walk in the woods which he also loves and its job done.0

For people whose fathers are hard of hearing I recommend amplifying equipment for the tv.
Something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonic-Technology-Products-Amplifier-Listening/dp/B000X2H8G4/ref=pd_sim_sbs_d_1
(I haven't tried this particular one, there are loads available)
As a hearing aid user I have a loop system set up for our family TV and it's brilliant as we don't have to have the volume turned up too loud for everyone else.I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderfulMarilyn Monroe0 -
One for the men
Do you have a Go Ape site nearby or a Segway activity centre. I try and find an activity for the following year to book and then OH can look forward to it.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j
