My OH is the same - wants nothing, needs nothing, but this year I've found a great source of small novelties that I think he'll appreciate along with the 'boring' money I usually end up giving him.

My family always buy socks for father and he is really disappointed. It is hard for me too to think about something interesting, so this year I gave him a brand new mobile phone...his previous one was crap. Еventually the mission was successful.
  • my dad usually asks for whisky, socks or slippers. he is a man of simple pleasures and is genuinely happy with being at home with his girls. but he has a cupboard full of whiskies and socks are boring so i'm doing him a hamper, a cryptic crossword book to do with his morning coffee....some nice coffee, some proper beer, peanuts, chocolate (he loves chocolate more than any hormonal women I know, must be having 3 duaghters and 3 granddaughters, poor bloke) i'm sure i'll find some other little bits to put in there too

  • Thank you everyone for your ideas! The hamper one is something that I think I might try, and put in a lots of stuff that he actually likes! Wheres the best place to buy the actual hamper from?
  • You can't go wrong with socks and booze! They can both keep you warm on a cold winter night....

My O/H is a nightmare to buy for. He's in his 60s and retired. Every year our grown up kids beg me for ideas for Xmas or his birthday and I just don't have any!

He's only into swimming but has absolutely everything he needs for that.

Likes his beer too and the kids usually fall back on beer for him but it's far from ideal.

    He's such a pain.
  • Ideas I've had for my dad (64):

    • A bird feeder - There's an RSPB one which is a perspex box open at the front, you stick to a window with suckers at the back. Thought that was good cos he loves watching the birds from the patio windows!
    • A cineworld box - They do a £20 gift box with 2 x 3D tickets and a voucher for popcorn and drinks.
    • A hamper of Xmas food from Lidl (spiced fudge, panetone, stollen) - something different as he usually gets booze and chocolate oranges.
  • I'm watching this thread with great interest! My dad is impossible to buy presents for. Doesn't care much for alcohol, doesn't follow any sports, already has a ton of films, isn't really into sweets, doesn't have the right type of humour for a lot of the novelties aimed at guys. His only real interest (other than his family) is playing the guitar but over the years he's acquired every accessory you could imagine plus vast quantities of sheet music.

He's just the nicest guy too, he really deserves to be spoiled.

The best present I've ever got for my Dad was a share in a gold mine in America :D He still keeps the certificate in a frame on his bedside table. This year he's getting an Amazon gift card for his Kindle and 4 cans of his favourite beer. He likes his drink but he gets whisky from everyone - he's diabetic so cant have sweets and buying DVD's is really hard because he's deaf and the sort of DVD's he likes (old programmes mainly) don't usually have subtitles. However he loves his Kindle so a voucher is always gratefully received. Last year I bought him an engraved whisky glass and he likes his Old Spice as well so I usually get him a set.
