Hi All,
This may sound like a really stupid question but I want to buy Microsoft office but I dont understand the difference in these 2:

The £79 one says for "a year" does that mean it goes off my pc after a year???
First software is for only 1 pc and other software is for 5 pcs.0 -
Download either of the free products.
Once you've got them there is an option to select the default file format. For school work use the MS format.
The only thing that you can't do is macros, but you would need to be doing some pretty serious stuff at school for that.
If you really "have" to use MS then speak to the school and see if they have a special deal.
Speak to your employer and see if they can offer something (either IT department or as a 'perk' through HR).0 -
Both Libre Office and OpenOffice are compatible with Microsoft. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a salesman.
They are both free and can open, edit and save Microsoft documents.
That's just not true. LibreOffice/OpenOffice and MS Office are not fully compatible with each other; however, they are mostly compatible.
If, like most people, you don't use the more "advanced" features, then you won't notice any incompatibilities. But I can tell you that virtually none of my Excel spreadsheets are compatible with LibreOffice since I tend to make use of VBA programming, which is not available in LibreOffice.
I really doubt that you'd run into any problems for casual home/school use, though.Download either of the free products.
LibreOffice would probably be the best choice. Most of the developers of OpenOffice left to form LibreOffice (when Oracle acquired OpenOffice from Sun) and tried to take the project in a direction that most were unhappy with.0
