Amazon - pre-order not arrived on release day

Ordered Call of Duty Ghosts in September as a present for my sons birthday. The Amazon page said it pre-order for release day delivery.

It's release day today, but the order hasn't arrived. I've contacted Amazon who said they dispatched it by Royal Mail last night and it doesn't have a tracking number, so they don't know where it is but lots of other customers have said theirs hasn't turned up either!

Got one disappointed lad who came in from school looking forward to playing on his birthday game, and now he's sitting watching You Tube videos as all his mates have got their copies but he can't join in!

Not happy with Amazon
Here I go again on my own....

I've twice ordered a product from Amazon and paid extra to receive it on release day only for it not to turn up. Tesco have been more successful for me

I thought Royal Mail were delivering it, not Amazon? Did you pay extra for a tracked delivery?

Amazon often get in trouble for sending stuff too early.

It said something like "want to get your game on release day? Then select this postage option" so I selected it! It didn't state then what method it would be sent out, so it was fair to assume that Amazon had some plans of dispatching it so it would arrive today.

I didn't expect them sticking it in the post last night and hoping Royal Mail would get it here on time. It's the hardened edition, so it'll be coming as a parcel rather than just the usual game case that goes through the letterbox.

Amazon will have been warned to within an inch of their life over this, they've consistently sent things out in such a fashion where they've arrived early and well, Activision weren't standing for that this time. While Vivendi's stake in Activision is greatly reduced, they still own about 12% of them and herein lies the problem.

Vivendi also own Universal Music - as in one of the biggest media companies going, they have the ability to restrict products to certain companies. Those products include some of the biggest selling recording artists in the world & ultimately when you're responsible for 30% of that market you're going to spook certain companies. Even Amazon's not THAT stupid or big - if Vivendi cut you off you've lost a major partner.

All retailers both physical & e-retail were warned not to send that product early, you'll get indies who did it anyway but ultimately the truth is that's one item which was instant dismissal with chain stores for breaking street date.

There's a secondary as well, it depends on your location relative to your nearest Amazon fulfillment centre - if it's a distance away that can lead to delays. They'd have to dispatch it on Monday to avoid it arriving early & well, that's going to cause problems on the other end - unfortunate but unavoidable. No offence intended here, but if it's a choice between P'ing off a customer & P'ing off one of the biggest companies in the sector - well, that's a no brainer.

Yes if they P'ing off their suppliers and they stop providing Amazon, just look at HMV and Game and what happened to them when they stopped getting supplies from major suppliers.
If the item is just sent standard parcel then its 2-3 working days delivery. Amazon would have been warned not to dispatch until yesterday

Always always order with shopto.net. 99% of my orders have come the day before release, 1% on the day, not once late and very competitive prices.

The only 100% way to guarantee it on the day is to buy it in the shop yourself. All the main gaming retailers have let me down on preorders.

The suppliers like Activision warned Amazon for doing this sort of thing So i dont think Amazon are going to risk losing suppliers.

shopto.net are in a significantly worse position than Amazon, Amazon have atleast the size to pretend like they could take on Vivendi, something ShopTo won't ever get close to.
