Whether or not you'll be charged to pay for your booking should also be taken into account. It's free to pay by direct debit at all three of the airlines ...
I'm not aware of any airline accepting direct debit as a means of payment, which is more suited for recurring transactions such a utility and phone bills. Does MSE mean debit card? This is a fundamentally different means of payment.
  • Hi NFH,

Thanks for flagging that, it should say debit card, not direct debit and this has since been corrected in the article.

It's interesting that BA are often cheaper than Ryanair and Easyjet, and even when they are a bit more expensive I would much prefer to travel with them due to the good service, on board meal, and not having to worry about being caught out with extra charges all the time.

I live near Stansted and I hope BA can start to run more services from there to out-compete Ryanair.
  • Not much of a comparison when you only look at twenty flights. A different twenty flights would produce an altogether different set of results.

Answer: Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't!

But at least you get a bag of crisps and a mediocre coffee on BA ...

Ryanair fly from a different airport, which is a big consideration. They are also famed for their poor customer service, which is another.

With BA you earn miles and potentially status.

BA let you choose seats at least 24 hours before takeoff, the others will charge.

    Free booze on BA.

BA are less likely to sting you with extra fees.

BA will take larger hand luggage.

BA has lounge access if you have status.

BA have better checkin and boarding.

They are worth paying extra for more. Not much extra maybe, but something.

I flew from Glasgow to London City for £39 hand luggage only It was £10 more if you wanted check in luggage.

Returned Heathrow to Glasgow and it was £49 hand luggage only Again £10 to add suitcase.

if you wanted to pre book seat £5 but I just chose them at Self service check in.

Check in was great as was boarding. None of the Ryanair rush for seats and standing for 30 mins for boarding. Free Tea coffee or drink. Made flying much more enjoyable.

Of course this blog is only relevant to people living in London, and BA has no services from anywhere else in the country...

So BA has no Domestic flights competing with easyJet and Ryanair?
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • I often travel to Italy and I bring back heavier stuff and liquid, so I take a cabin sized suitcase containing a fold up rucksack.I only check in my suitcase on the return journey and use the rucksack for some clothes and other lighter things, thereby saving one check-in luggage fee.
    Works for me !
