Cheap broadband providers like Plusnet and TalkTalk

Hi

I'm looking at these really cheap broadband deals like PlusNet and TalkTalk which are selling broadband for £2.99 and £2.50 a month respectively.
They're both on offer at the moment.

I am currently with BT infinity but having to cut costs and know I'll have to sacrifice my internet speed e.g. having to download any videos i want to watch, and stuff.

Can anyone tell me if signing up for one of these ever-so-cheap deals is something I am going to regret? Is there a reason why they are so cheap?

Thanks.

Presumably you had ADSL/ADSL2+ internet connection before you went for BTInfinity?? So you will know how much slower your connection will be-only you know whether you will miss the extra speed -you should still be able to get an "unlimited usage" tariff with them.
Personally I've been with Plusnet for 5 years and they have been much better than my previous experiences with HORRANGE.

There are always cheaper FTTC providers than BT, Plusnet being the obvious example. You are simply using the most expensive. If you have Infinity then you are probably in an 18 minimum term though.
The TT £2.50 Simply Broadband tariff is aimed at people who make no landline calls and purely require the line for their broadband. The Plusnet £2.99 tariff include weekend calls (Anytime is £5 extra).
Both offer unlimited broadband, so all you'll notice is slower speeds. However to stream iPlayer etc does not require FTTC, you can do it quite adequately on ADSL with a line speed of around 3MBps.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Hi
    Thanks.
I had a really old modem from virgin before infinity.
I did a bit of reading and I think I may go to plusnet, because I read that they don't cap useage. I read that plusnet, sky, BT and another supplier, I forget now, who are the only ones who do true unlimited.
I'm ok with slower, but would rather have unlimited, truly unlimited.
    Thanks for sharing.

Does that just mean fibre optic broadband?
    Thanks.

    Yes.

There is a copper wire between the cabinet and your house as opposed to FTTP (P=Premises), where it's fibre all the way.
  • I have been on TalkTalk BB since July and no real problems. Online support is great but can be a few days wait but they usually come up with the goods. Never tried phone support though.

Also got cashback via Quidco which paid out last month.

Hi Quentin and From St Neots

    Thank you for your posts.

I've been doing a bit of thinking.
Given what I read about broadband suppliers and fair useage policy, and the fact that I am on the internet alot, and watch lots of videos (which I will have to start downloading to avoid buffering) it would be sensible of me to use one of the four suppliers mentioned above, sky, Bt, plusnet or virgin, but I cannot use virgin as they are not in my area.

I appreciate your feedback on talktalk, but I think they will always be on my back for hogging the bandwidth, as they have fair useage.

    Thanks though.

    Thanks

    Thanks.

Infinity is FTTC-that's what you have now.
Infinity is just BT's brand name for it, their resellers such as Sky and Plusnet call it other things-but it's still FTTC.
