Ignore the fireworks and the dogs reaction from day one and they soon learn there is nothing to be afraid of.
Yep did that thats why Mr Dog hasnt had an issue until this year (so for the last 5)
Not really helpful but thanks
She was pacing like a caged lion last night. Had them both locked in a room with me, music, cage with cover on. Mr Dog still fine Mrs Cowbag not so much.0 -

People dont seem to grasp that other people might need to sleep.
Looking at the state of Mrs Cowbag (who frankly wore herself out with pacing and panicking) Im all for proper displays and not sold to the home.0 -
New Year is the worst time round here. There's a big communal green out the front of my house bordered by 30 odd houses. There's an idiot who lives round the corner (his house doesn't even border the green) who takes great pleasure in letting off huge display boxes of fireworks over Christmas and New Year. Last new year he started at midnight and it was still going at 2am. Plus he positioned them right outside my house, so they were literally 10 feet from my living room. When I saw him getting his gear ready I asked him to move down the green, away from my house and my epileptic dog. He said ok, but as soon as I'd shut the front door he put them all back again. Fortunately my dog wasn't really bothered about them but with him being epileptic I wouldn't leave him on his own so couldn't go to bed. I had to be up for work at 4am so got no sleep that night. I think somebody might have called the police in the end because I know there were at least 2 boxes of fireworks that he didn't get round to. A lot of my neighbours were angry about it. Nobody minds half an hour or so but 2 hours is taking the p*ss a bit. There's been nothing yet so far this year (he also did it on bonfire night last year) but there's still this weekend to go.
Luckily the dog I have now isn't bothered by them (well, not so far!). It's her first year, she's 7 months old. Last night we were late going out and there were a fair few going off around us but she seemed ok, just occasionally startled.
I also think it should be public displays only, or restricted to 1 or 2 nights so we can get it all over and done with in 1 foul swoop.
Some people only exist as examples of what to avoid....0 -
Quick update. The Zycline that the vet recommended has been brilliant. He still pricks his ears up and wanders a bit, but none of the shaking and panting that we have had before. Lets hope it continues, or that they ban fireworks which is what I would prefer.Wins 2014 - £100 John Lewis Vouchers, Personalised Razor, Aunt Bessies Oven Glove. Good food show tickets. Ours slept through the whole thing thank god.
It would be such a nightmare if he was bothered by them around our way though, they're not restricted to bonfire night and people have been setting them off for the past two weeks, and I'm sure they'll be going for another week more. I thought the rain would've stopped it last night, but no, not a chance. People were even still setting them off at midnight because one woke me up at quarter-past as it exploded very close to our house.
Really feel for you guys with the shaky ones, I can't imagine how upsetting it is seeing them so frightened.0 -
My girl dog Lucy exhausted herself too. She was in such a state, bless her.
By the time we went to bed she was worn out. Hope it doesn't all kick off again tonight.0 -
Tescos need a rocket from customers, still selling fireworks today!0

My dog had been fine but last night after about 2 weeks of fireworks every night he seemed a bit worried. There were some very loud ones quite close to my house.
He paced for a bit and then came and laid his head on my lap.
I thought today well at least there are over now but no, they have just started again! Why would people have them tonight? The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0
