well try and register the UGG trademark and you will find you cant. i will not inform the trademark council that they are another company that must consult MSE users as they know best. i provided a link with all legally TRADEMARK registrations and reg. numbers for UGG, but it seem MSE users think these are fake.0 -
I thought the reason you couldn't register Ugg as a trademark in Australia was simply because, as Pulliptears said, Ugg is a generic term in Australia.
Now, I could be wrong here, so please feel free to correct me.0 -

Precisely that Weald. Deckers (Ugg Australia's manufacturer) went to court, lots of small independent Ugg boot makers went also basically saying "Hang on, we've been making these Ugg boots since before Deckers existed" and they won the right to call an Ugg an Ugg.
Deckers have the logo rights and the term 'Ugg Australia' but the term Ugg is generic there as country of origin.
FWIW, having owned Deckers Ugg Australia and Warmbat Uggs, I'd go with the original Aussie Uggs over the Deckers every day of the week.0 -

I believe that trademark is in reference to how the word UGG appears, not on the actual use of the word (hence why the image is described).
I think they are being creative on their website by not fully stipulating what the trademark actually means. The trademark for the word UGG was, as identified above, removed from the register.
It is easy to be misled on this.. don't feel bad.0 -

Correct I believe.Bob Baldwin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Australian Minister for Industry, Tourism, and Resources clarified in a press release late last month that the latest decision concerns a composite trade mark which combines the word UGG with the word Australia and the image of an oval sun with flames. “This means that trade mark protection applies for the way the mark looks or appears in its entirety, rather than the words within it”, said the Hon Bob Baldwin.0
