A question I've been wondering about as well.

Sorry but the earlier answers seem conflicting to me (post 5 says yes, post 7 says no)

Just to clarify - if, for example, someone says - 'did you see that programme last night?' I could then watch it on YouView catch-up.
Could I also record the programme for later viewing or can YouView only record programmes at the time they are broadcast?
    look at this http://support.youview.com/articles/Self_Service_FAQ/Why-can-t-I-record-a-programme-from-the-backwards-programme-guide-1370864313233/?q=recording+iplayer&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=3
It's not possible to record Catch Up programmes. You can only record current or future listed programmes. It's also worth bearing in mind that if you start recording after a programme’s started, you’ll only record it from that point on.
If the programme is available On Demand, you can select and watch it from the backwards programme guide. But you’ll only be able to record it if it’s broadcast again in the future.

OH dear you mis-quoted penrhyn again you cut his post thus in red above sadly to make your point (irrelevant) you missed the bits in blue above (relevant) you really need to use youview to review your posts in the last 7 days

You have your cart before your horse.

The response to the red part is relevant because I was trying to record a program from catch up TV, it doesn't matter if Penrhyn has an objection to me wanting to get a permanent copy of a program, what matters is that I want one and had asked how this could be acheived.

The blue part is irrelevant because it has already been broadcast and therefore there is no opportunity to record live, if there was why would I be asking for help?

The youview box cannot record them in catchup mode.

But if you playback on the youview box and link the box by scart to your dvd/HDD recorder you *might* be able to record it. I didn't try it as the person I ws trying to help managed to get it from a different source.

I didn't try because after asking here the person I was trying to help had got it from another source.

I also can't easily experiment if this would work because it's not my youview box and it would be a bit of an imposition for me to get all technical with cables and boxes with someone elses set up if it was just for an experiment.

I think the 1st post about get i-player is a good way of getting it but I looked and it all seemed a bit too computer-techie to me

if it is playable on a computer, blueberry express edition - the free version will most likely be able to record http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/bbflashback/compareeditions.aspx
