Umm, yes. Hyundai don't seem to sell many v8-powered cars in the UK...Not sure they are budget smart investments, as the repairs will be quite expensive.
someone recommended a bently. Broken wing mirror? That will be £1500 please!
I think you might be missing the point slightly.0 -

That's the point, it's not an investment, it's cheap fun. If it breaks, do the maths if it's worth fixing, if not, chuck it away, break it up for spares or sell it to an exporter.
Although, if you're not doing big miles in it, and especially if you know how to use a spanner, it can make a lot more sense than spending a fair few grand more on a "sensible" car.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I agree, perhaps the bently was an extreme example. I would stick to a slightly more common car like a bmw, mercedes, ford etc for the sake of repairing and maintenance maybe go for a car that shares the same platform with a lower end model. So you can replace doors, wing mirrors with lower end (commonly available) models.0 -
Not only could repairs be costly, I cant remember them being very good in fuel.

I ran a V8 soarer for about 4 years and it never put a foot wrong0

go for an xj if you can. Parts are readily available and nowhere near as expensive as you would think. Plenty available for around £1000. Just make sure the chain tensioners have been replaced. The Nikasil liners used to be a problem but are highly unlikely to give any issue now as the cause of the problem was removed from fuel 10 years ago.0

Not a V8, but I used to run a 1989 V6 Camry as a daily. Apart from very occassionally needing the starter motor twatting with a lump of wood as someone turned the key, it was the most reliable car I've ever owned.
In the two years I owned it, I did 60k+ miles, and all I did to it was:
Took the previous owner's Hellfrauds special immobiliser off (at the side of Shepards Bush Road first thing in the morning because it stopped working)
Cambelt
Basic servicing
Tyres
Brake pads
Rear drop links.
I paid £500 for it with tax and a fresh test on, had two years of using as as a road sofa for work, then sold it to an exporter for £300.
Also averaged 33mpg, 2 less than the 1.6 Ford Escort it replaced :eek:Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

You may also find an early Audi A8 or S8 for about £1000 - vert tatty at that price but what a fantastic drive.
For about £2000 you could actually get a decent-ish S8 around 2000 /2001 vintage. Built to last, they are like luxury offices on the road, but take care looking or you could end up with one needing big bucks repairs to the ZF transmission in particular.0
