Is there help for water costs for people on benefits please?

Options
Hello

I have a couple of questions please.

I am on incpacity benefit and DLA and I am wondering if there is any help with water costs for people on benefits please?

I live in a one bedroomed flat. Not had a bath in the last six months.
I am a homeowner and I have a water meter.
Today, I got my latest 6 monthly water useage and chage letter from the the water company, and it says I will be paying £21 a month based on my last meter reading done by them on Oct 24th. The reading was 154.

I also read my meter today and my meter reading is 155.
In the last week I have used a cubic metre of water, but I cannot see how, given my useage. One person, no dishwasher, no baths, minimize loo flushing, etc.

Can't see any leaks.

Does £21.50 a month seem right?

I wouldn't think that there is any help with water costs, this is incorporated into your incapacity benefit as this is living costs.

£5 a week is a bit of a bargain me thinks.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • i pay 38.00 a month and i think thats cheap.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.
    Is £21 a month ok/cheap, even though I do have a meter?

We (2A & 2C) currently pay £27 per month - our water recently offered us this:

FYI 1(one) cubic meter of water is 220 gallons... are you SURE you don't have a leak?
    that's 27.5 gallons a day!!!
At 9 litres (approx), a toilet cistern only uses 2 gallons.

    Actual or estimated reading?
Do a flow test on the meter to see if there is a leak.
If it's metered, then 'cheap' isn't really relevant. You pay the metered rate for what you use.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Do they know you are a single occupant ? Our water company do a discount for single low users. They pay less sewage charges.

    Hi

I cannot see any leaks. Surely the neighbours below me would get wet if I had a leak.
The meter said 154 on 24th Oct, it now says 155, does this mean I have used a cubic meter?
How else can I check for a leak.

    I used
    Thanks.
