Worth noting that when you are in it, you don't have to actually look at it!

I think a lot of owners of these pseudo 4x4s which are in reality 2WD will get a surprise come the snow.

Yes, we had a hell of a surprise... just how good it really was. :p

    Safety feature*.

Stops you window shopping and makes you concentrate on the road.

Functionality first seen in the Ford Scorpio

    *may be lies.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

And advert saying "Kia Sportage 4x4 2WD" as they mostly are on Autotrader is confusing.. That is why I am asking if I am missing something!!
I would suggest that description would be illegal. 4x4 means 4WD!

Is it bad I quite like look of Yeti's even though I don't like SUVs. I would say

Rwdrive<2wd on standard wheel<4x4 on standard tyres<2wd on winter tyres<4x4 on winter tyres.

I agree, but I'd add "!!!! driver<" to the beginning.

I have to say that I find Autocar's comparative tests to be regularly flawed. It seems to me that many times they apprear to have a result in mind before the test and set the test up to produce that desired result.

I would say though that the correct tyres for any occasion far out perform any technology.

  • Skoda Octavia 4x4. Best of both worlds: running costs of a car, but has 4x4 for the times you need it (ie, going up hill and around a corner on a frosty morning..)

Type of vehicle = off roader, or maybe soft roader
    Driven wheels - 4WD, 4x4, 2WD
My wife's car is four wheel drive, but it is NOT an off roader!
  • Your budget puts you nicely into a Subaru Forester, of which there is a Diesel version.

Full time 4WD, simple proper system that has stood the test of time almost unchanged, so benefits you the other 350 odd days when it doesn't snow with precise unstickable grip.
