Problems with Sky and BTOpenreach

  • PriceofPrivatisation - I think it is good to know the list of people we should contact when passed from pillar to post. I don't advocate harassment one jot but sometimes the people at the top need to know what's going on down below. Contacted a few people already and received a reply, so really hoping it is resolved soon.
  • The longer people like you go on regurgitating the mantras of these massive companies the longer we're all stuffed.

Clearly I'm not going to change your mind on an internet forum, but these are the tricks these companies use to carry on exploiting us.

My harrassment comment was tongue in cheek, but often the people at the top of these companies are so insulated from reality that they just don't know how bad some of their customer service is.

Where does it say in forum rules that you cannot post email addresses? I took care not to post links to personal emails directly, but provided enough information so that anyone who is having trouble could get it sorted. Is that a problem? If so I can be more cryptic, but surely information is our only weapon in these disputes?

As far as causing harrassment to Olivia Garfield. As someone has pointed out here, she is CEO of BT Openreach, a company with the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

I still can't understand why people seem so keen to defend these massive companies and the way they treat us all with contempt?

Why would you be concerned with her being 'harrassed' by people using her company's service that have been mucked about for months on end? Frankly, I hope she does feel harrassed, because that's how I felt for three months talking to useless customer service people over and over again.....

    You didn't read the rules?

Why then did you use your cryptic ways to give out the email addresses?

And "clever" people like you finding ways to break the site rules don't last long!

And when you gave us the wrong name, of course she would get harrassed by getting emails not even intended for her as you wrongly told us she was the BT CEO!

Or did you give us the wrong name on purpose as you seem pleased your actions have caused harrassment to her?
  • I didn't read the rules, no. Does that bother you? I'm guessing there must be something in there about trolling though and that appears to be exactly what you're doing.

I didn't come on here to start an argument, I chose this website to post this because I thought it would be the best place to reach the most people who are having problems.

I'm not trying to be clever, so I don't know why you keep saying that, I was merely anticipating that it may be a problem to post people's personal email addresses so I avoided doing so.

I didn't give the wrong name, if you read again you'll see I stated the wrong position. In fact, she is even more apt than I first thought as she is CEO of Openreach, the ones everyone has a problem with!

You seem to be a very wound up individual, so unless you have anything else to contribute to this thread - which is about helping people who are struggling with Sky and/or BT Openreach - I suggest you take a deep breath.

Or maybe you're Olivia Garfield?! :D

Sigh...but you are not a customer of BT Openreach...

BT OR do not have any retail customers, they are purely a wholesale provider.

  • Are they providing a service? Yes. Am I receiving that service? Yes.

This kind of opaque practice is how they continue to get away with treating people like dirt.

If you want to defend them that's your call, though I'll never understand it.

Youandiaredominoes - have you had any luck with sorting your phone line out?

But they are not providing a service to you, they provide a service to Sky who sell it to you, OR invoice Sky and have service level agreements with regard to provision and repair, indeed they automatically compensate Sky when orders or repairs take longer than the SLA dictates...this arrangement was at OFCOMs insistence who were persuaded to mandate it, by the likes of Sky and TT who wanted an arms length arrangement between BT Retail and the part of BT that became Openreach
Contacting the executive teams in OR or your Service Provider is good advice though, in fact forums such as this are full of advice to to just that when getting the run around from your providers so called customer service department
  • Thanks iniltous, though people may disagree with my assessment of the problem, you're the first to admit that this post might actually be helpful, which was the purpose of posting on here!

I understand the technicalities behind the seperation of BT openreach as a contractor to Sky, what I'm saying is that these sorts of arrangements have become rife and this is how massive companies are able to exploit people. Frankly I'm not interested in whether BT Openreach is or isn't directly involved with BT Retail and their relationship with Sky, all I want is a service provided for which I've payed for and I don't feel I should have to go chasing CEOs to get things done.

I believe these sorts of confusing business relationships are deliberately arranged to confuse and muddy the water so that nobody really knows where they stand. If BT Openreach are providing people's lines and BT Openreach are not accountable to those people then that's very convenient for them isn't it. It's also very convenient for SKY et al. The only people it isn't convenient for is us, ordinary people.

Switching both landline and broadband from BT to Sky on the 5/11, hopefully all will go ok but will certainly bear in mind your advice if it doesn't. Fortunately we have a Mifi and mobile data for any desperate internet use but would certainly prefer all to go as planned.
