Hello! Just read this for the first time, and I truly believe that you can get yourself through this - be proud of the steps you have taken so far, and remember to take one day at a time, whether it is alcohol, debt reduction, family issues etc etc.
Have a look at www.jobcentreplus.co.uk for a whole range of jobs in your area - some casual, some formal, some weekly paid, some monthly paid etc etc. Maybe something will suit from there.
Also, get your CV up to date and get it out to agencies, ok so factory work etc is not that desireable, but it is often paid weekly by agencies, so you won't have to wait too long to get an income flow.
Ebay whatever you can - even things you think of as tat will sell for a few quid here and there - all goes towards the expenses, and shows to your OH that you are doing something. Could you do a car boot this weekend? Again, getting rid of your rubbish may make you a few well received pounds.
Even if you cannot do a formal DMP through CCCS etc, you could write to your creditors and make a token £1 payment to each of them while you sort out the short term options. Your secured loan/mortgage is by far the most important, and once you have an income stream/sell cars/boats etc you can start negotiating realistic payment plans or full and final settlements with your creditors.
I wish you all the very best in your journey. Come on here for advice and support, and take one step at a time.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
ok - I was just thinking about what I would like to do for a job and it's just dawned on me ... I realised why I have this fear of getting a job. yes, later on it became a paperwork issue IR C/tax etc - but...
when my ex wife left me - she left me with the kids. They were 18 mnts 2 and 5 at the time. I love my kids dearly and this was the best thing that ciould have happend at the time. I was really happy she didnt want the kids.
I quit my day job and worked full time in my computer shop which I had been running - open in the evening and repairing pc's though the night.
anyway I knocked half the shelving down and made a creche area and I looked after the kids - sign in the window 'back in 10 minutes' when I took them to school etc.
I was coping really well and the kids were happy and after about 9 months I met my now new wife.
to cut a long story short, after about 18 mnths and the ex turning up once a month maybe, to see one of the kids at a time, one of them called thier mum by my girlfreinds name ! this in turn ended up my ex taking me to court to get the kids back. Caffcass and everyone aggreed I was doing a wonderful job bringing them up, but she was thier mother. it ended up going in her favour, purely because I was working and she wasnt ! arghhhhh
My eldest daughter now lives with me when she got old enough to stand up to her mumthe other two may or maynot - I see them half of all the time they are not at school . this includes weekends and all holidays.
so there you have it, I worked self employed so I can spend time with my kids, and didn't work full time for fear I would see them less.
I am glad I remembered that, I couldnt figure out why I had this fear of working.
So I guess a flexi houred job , maybe graveyard shift, is what I need to look for.
shelf stacking seems a good option even if its not very intellectual !0 -
Hi 135KI quit my day job and worked full time in my computer shop which I had been running - open in the evening and repairing pc's though the night.
Have you thought of putting cards in shop windows for computer repairs? You could repair them at home and work around the kids.
You could do it as a trial to see how you get on and not go self-employed until you know if it would allow you the time and money to finish your assets and sell them.
Yes, I know it would involve the taxman again but from what you have written. I think that is becoming less of a concern to you.
When you have sold the boat, possible another item or two and you have about half your total debt as a lump sum, you could try for a lump sum IVA.
Providing that none of your creditors have more then 25% of your total debt. If that is the case it does not mean that an IVA will fail but if you can move money around so that none of them has more then 25% of your total debt. The IVA stands more chance of succeeding. You can find out more about this at the web page bellow. As I understand it the rules for a monthly IVA or a lump sum IVA are almost identical.

Hi there 135k.
Just read your thread and I've been shocked at some of what you've had to go through on it to get some support and advice. However it seems now, that you've opened up more (which I can only assume has been painful) and now you are starting to get some ideas and a bit of a 'handle' on what's happening and what needs to be done. Even if it seems a small handle!
I do hope you can tackle the drinking very soon with the appropriate help - you're not going to be able to hold down work easily if you're having problems in that department. Please seek that help. It will change your life.
Someone has asked me to post on here regarding temping work (I posted elsewhere) though I am not sure it is right for you t this particular moment in time, it may be in the near future?
Here is a link to the post I made about it if you want to read it:

Agencies (as you might well know) cover all sorts of work these days (including part time/unconventional hours) so you just need to seek out the ones which cover the work you would/could want to do.
I wish you good luck with sorting out the issues you have.
Start small - clearly this is all not going to be sorted out overnight so any steps you take are better than nothing and will all help in the cumulative long term.
Best of luck.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Hi All
Thanks for all your advice.
I'm pretty sure Wifey is reading this, so I prob wont be posting much now.
Hi Wifey x x x
Thanks again0 -
I hope you still feel able to post. If wifey is reading, it will just go to show her how much you are wanting to get this all sorted - that's positive!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi 135K
So you have been trying to sort out all this debt on your own so that the boss will not have worry about it. That was so good and kind of you.
I hope she takes that in to consideration and uses the small rolling pin and not the big one.
Seriously though, two heads are better then one and having moral support from that someone special is half the battle. I often wish I had someone who would put their arms around me, hug the living daylights out of me and tell me it will all be ok. Hint, hint Wifey.
For me, helping others to sort out their debts and watching them getting on the right road to being debt free, gives me hope that I too will be there soon. So, please keep posting and then all of us can see how you are getting on.0
