You should really consult your G.P. about this ASAP. There is plenty of help available, and detox can be done safely at home not necessarily within a hospital environment.

You will be prescribed medication, (either chlordiazapoxide or diazepam) short term to be taken several times a day to limit the effects of withdrawal. You will still suffer from sweating and shaking, and feel generally terrible for a while, but you should not suffer the more severe side effects.

You will probably be unable to work during this period and will require the help and support of your family.

Short term it will be very difficult, but think of the long term benefits! :D

Thanks you for that - I WILL give it some serious consideration. I suppose its the same with any addiction - I know the alcahol will make me feel better if I need to. I also know( but get pushed to the side) that it will make me feel worse afterwords. The scary thought is accepting that 'MEDICATION' that big 'ive got a problem' word could help.

    god I feel like !!!!!! now !

i know exactly what harm it is doing ! I have read up on it. I even know the mental / depressing thing it is doing to my head, thats why I am trying to cope with that too.

the other week I sat in my garage thinking about sorting it out so I could work in there, and it was like in the films - devil on one shoulder , angel on the other. I was VERY aware of what I should be doing, but I couldn't get my self off my !!!!! sat on the work mate just sat staring at the mess before me. It was soooo wierd to be so conscious of the mess my head was in , so I linited myself to one drink spread out through the day for a few days so I could snap out of it. it was like a head f..k moment (can I type that ? ) scared me a bit. but at least I know I am still conscious of my debt and drinking and whatever else is !!!!!! in my life, and making the effort to deal with it one thing at a time.

dont know about all at once though !

at least you're aware of it, that's a huge part of it! You're right, dealing with the debt and the booze will be a damn hard road and maybe it is too much to start tackling all at once. Don't let it bog you down, little steps will get going and you'll sort this debt out eventually.

Seriously though, the booze worries me more than the debt right now! The things you're saying are sounding exactly like the situation my ex was in. I do think you'll need some kind of help to stop drinking, it's a mammoth task and it'll need a lot of strength. My ex didn't want to face it and I had to walk away before he started ruining my life as well as his own. Just don't be afraid to ask for help, you don't have to do this on your own. In fact, you probably shouldn't!

Don't feel like !!!!!!, you're facing up to some big problems here! And loads of people post on this board and say that facing up to their debts and accepting that they had to deal with them was the worst part.

So be grateful that you're doing that bit at least!

    Hi 135k

I have read your whole thread with interest and sympathy, haven't posted before as i haven't got any constructive advice.

I have debt (not as much as you but terrifying to me) and yes I work - but as a freelance writer, which means I'm at computer most of the day. I spend far too much time on this site and it is really detracting from my earnings. Visiting once a day sounds a good idea.

Good luck with sorting stuff out, it sounds as if you have lots going for you and once you got stuck in you will wrestle those debts down. I don't know anything about cars but I'd say just sell what you can as quickly as you can to make an immediate dent and that will be a huge motivator.

    Good luck

Beleive it or not seeing it as a problem is a very positive thing to happen. It's the first step to finding a solution, which in turn gives you your life back! :D

Can i just say that you have been more open than you can imagine. You realise you have a problem regarding the drink and you have admitted such. Go forward with this and you will feel better in youself and more ready to tackle your debt.

Any Question Answered is a company that answers questions people text in. They employ people to work from home and answer questions on the net. It's a popular job though so they only hire every now and then. Google them and watch for new hires.

Matched Betting is good for making a bit of cash but you HAVE to make sure you fully understand it before you do it otherwise you'll lose money.

Both of these are ways to supplement income though, you're not going to make millions from them! I'd say the best way to earn a few pence here and there is to get a job...I don't mean this in a nasty way, but what you need right now is steady income so you can meet your daily expenses (like food and the mortgage) and start to tackle that debt.

These are ways to supplement income, not replace it.

Sorry my english isnt the best. I meant im taking the golden path of investing :D . Funds ISA, 6% cash ISA, 6.2% saver and 8% regular saver, shares in a few companies etc, just building up money in general.

Matched betting is a lot of time and effort so never got into it really, youd prob make more money for the effort stacking at tescos. The really good people make about 20K a year, but there playing about with very very large sums of money etc. Not worth it IMO.

A before any one says well im ok cos i got 40k free from my dad, well i gave him 10 grand of ford focus in return and prob spent about 20k on the new car before it was over (mainly in insurance  )

    Hi 135K

I have been reading your posts very carefully, not for what you have written but for how you had written it and that is why I was suggesting that you go and see your GP.

If you are hitting the bottle to be able to sleep at night, surely that is worse the taking a few sleeping tablets, not that you can take them with alcohol.

Yes Anti depressants are addictive but these days doctors are fully aware of that. When they or you decide to come off them, it is done slowly and that way your body has time to adjust. They also seem to have a calming effect.

20mg tablets are changed to 10mg for a few weeks or even a few months and then you take one every other day. Eventually, you stop taking them completely. It is exactly the same as you are trying to do with the alcohol.

Anyhow, now I know about the drinking, I would defiantly say go and see your GP. You have admitted that you have a problem and that they say is the first step. Your GP has a great deal of information at their disposal and can recommend all sorts of things that could help you and it does not have to involve taking tablets.

A part time job would be good but a lot of jobs these days are paid monthly and it is likely that you would not start the job until next month. That would mean best part of six weeks before you would have any extra money and you said you need money now to make this months payments.

For an IVA where you make payments over 60 months, 70 to keep a house, you have to be employed. No job, no IVA.

There is an alternative one to that, which involves making a one off lump sum payment as a full and final settlement to all your creditors. I think it can exclude the mortgage and you do not have to have a job.

I cannot remember the exact percentage but is about 20 or 25%. If any of your creditors have more than this percentage of your debt, they can reject an IVA.

PS. Please post you your financial details. As soon as you do, everyone will look at them and try to come up with ways to help you. You never know what we might me able to come up with unless you post them and once again go see your GP. Like others, I am genuinely concerned about your health. I think you are suffering from depression.
