Thanks for this. You get double points in supermarkets and triple for petrol. But for the first couple of weeks I got triple in supermarkets and x5 for petrol :T0 -
I am pretty sure it is 90 days from 'account opening' - call them and they will be abel to tell you when the account was opened.
I found that with ordinary points on the 2k spend I actually had nearly 24000 points by the time I got my bonus and converted these to Nectar points worth 120 quid in Sainsburies where we shop most weeks anyway so pretty much as good as cash.
The 2 months thing is great as youcan then close the account and reapply 6 months later compared to most cashback cards where you have to wait 12 months before you get your money. don't forget to apply through quidco/topcashback. £10 currently but they often have £25/£45.
Another great suggestion. Amazon is also back at the lower values too and I've just noticed Boots and Homebase so still plenty of choice. I'm almost at 25k points so I'll take it past 25 and then decide.
Then it'll be back to my old egg/bcard for the 1% cashback unless anybody can suggest a better alternative?
Thanks all for your help.0 -
FYI - Amex have not upped the requirement from £100-£200 sneakily, it has been like this from the very start.
The issue was due to a misleading MSE tip email, which included 'Amazon' as a retailer one could spend the vouchers with (neglecting to point out the £200 minimum).
I did report this to Martin the moment it was spotted (and also suggested they include 'Tesco' on the list instead, since it was probably of more interest to the typical MSE anyway).
I have used the card and plan to cash in on Tesco vouchers once all the points come through (I think it can take up to 6 months according to Ts&Cs).

It's not misleading at all. They ran out of stock of the £100 vouchers for a while, but they are back now?0

No it hasn't - you are wrong.
Perhaps it was like that since the point you started looking, but it wasn't that way from the start.
There are literally hundreds of rewards including cash. Amex are allowed to change one or two now and again. All that's happened is that cards went out of stock that's all.0 -
Ok, sorry - I looked the day I had the MSE tip - and although I saw they did lower denominations, they weren't available to me.
I now see that even Tesco is no longer available.
I have 25k points, and no idea what to do with them.
(starting to regret not using my 4% barclaycard cashback instead).0 -
Another option is to transfer them to Nectar Rewards...
which would open up the spend to other places.
e.g. Sainsburys/Argos/eBay
I think I'll wait and keep monitoring the Amex site, because the Tesco one might come back.0 -
One more thing - I read that others were suggesting be able to take the points out as cash?
Is that no longer available? I can't see it. (tried searching for 'cash'). Are you referring to the awful AmericanExpress vouchers? (lower value, and cost each month!).
Unless Tesco/Amazon comes back, I think Nectar is looking like the best option.0 -

Amazon has gone again so looks like Nectar for me.
How do you get 4% barclaycard cashback?0 -
How do you get 4% barclaycard cashback?
The Barclaycard Cashback Card (no longer available) which was available a year ago, paid 5% for the first 3 months, and then pays 4% every year on your 'anniversary' month (which for me, is in December, when I buy my travel card and xmas stuff). [though it charges £25 p/a also].
It is only on the 'top 5 purchases', but I only took out this Amex card really for my annual travel card (£2.3k). I could have used the Barclaycard for the 4%, but it worked out better using Amex.
- 20,000 points (for spending > 2k)
- 4600 points (2300, doubled since it is 'travel/train tickets')
- Then spending an extra £200 in Tesco (also 2 points), would give me 25k points.
£125 cashback on £2,500 = 5%. £25 better than using Barclays (though the Barclays one is pure cash).0
