Hardly relevant to the op's problem. Are you suggesting no dentists have had a complaint upheld? Your history would make you out to be a dentist?? So why you asking, you know the answer?

I aqm not denying any duty of care quentin you are persistently twisting everything I am saying. I was under the impression we were on about complaining. Thus if a complaint is to be made, for efficiency it is wise to go to the place that the most action can be taken.
Repeatedly ... assuming the dentist has sent the letter and they can demonstrate this then go to the hospital because rather than complaining to a dentist who as I have said over and over can not do anything to speed up the referral process, go to the people who will ultimately be carrying out the work and perhaps the OP would be able to get in sooner as part of the complaints procedure. I really dont get why you are countering everything I have said when all I am trying to do is help the OP get their situation managed as fast as possible and not waste time making complaints to inefficient places.
I would hope the dentist WOULD help as much as they can but I dont see how a complaint to them would benefit the OP if they have done their duty to date. It wont achieve anything beneficial to the OP and may well sour any relationship with the practice.
FWIW the GDC supsensions are not the best way to judge complaints upheld because not all get to the GDC, many are managed locally0 -

Simply persisting in your assumption the dentist is blameless and the hospital is to blame just looks like dentists sticking together.
As does your colleague pretending to want to be shown complaints upheld against dentists.
You know that I gave him an example where to look to shut him up. He knows well enough.
Though others will be interested to learn of the bad dentists getting suspended for such abhorrent crimes as child grooming for example.
As someone recommending the op complain to the non existent pct, you don't come from a strong point advising us where to go! If you really want to assist another dentist learn about complaints upheld about your colleagues, then why not do so?0 -
See you do have some form of bias against dentists by alleging I am just sticking together with someone I have never even met. I fail to see how a dentist being convicted of grooming children or any other abhorrent crime has ANY relevance whatsoever in this issue. THis is a missed placed referral letter not a disgusting crime against kids. Not sure what colleague you are referring to.
So my advice has no credibility because I am a dentist and you disagree? Ok as long as we are clear on that.
If the OP actually wants their referral handled and seen which I guess thats what the original post was about then my suggestion may well get them somewhere. If they want blood then by all means complain about everyone.0 -
oh and as I am in Wales I dont have PCTs anyway and have little need to keep up with the ever changing commissioning landscape in England.0

Looking at some of the posts from op I would guess they live in Manchester.
Surprise,surprise it does appear Manchester has a central referral centre run by administrators which triages and sorts referrals before they are sent to the provider of the service eg hospital or oral surgery centre. A new system was introduced in Dec 2012 so it may be that things got lost or sent to the wrong place as a result of these changes. The local dental committee has publicised problems in dentists referrals as there appear to be many problems with the referral system for oral surgery in the Manchester area.http://www.trafford-dentists.nhs.uk/category/pct-posting
So ask your dentist for a copy of the referral letter, check it has been recieved and if not send it signed on delivery.
The other thing is Manchester may also be one of the areas where they will bounce back a referral without the patients NHS number. A dentist will not have access to this so you need to make sure your dentist knows your NHS number.0 -
Oh God, isn't this just the way of the NHS? I moved to a surgery about three years ago, gave them my health card to register and they said a new one in six weeks. Since then I've written every year asking for it to be sent. The first time they emailed my saying six weeks. Last week I went again... six weeks. I hope it's not important.
When I wanted them to record my living will I went to the office, they didn't even know what that was and wouldn't do anything until the PCT told them what the procedure was. That took letters back and forth for a year.
All this and I've never even seen a GP. I've had long term health issues dealt with abroad.0 -

it is because of people like you that cause an unnecessary bureaucratic burden on the health service.
Complaining to the dentist who has done everything he possibly can will only detract valuable time that he could be spending with his patients.
How do we know that an appointment may have been made but the OP may have failed to turn up or cancelled it.
Wasted appointments cost the NHS millions.

You are spot on! Time = money to a dentist. Though you don't often see them queuing at the free food handout centres.
The dentist wouldn't get paid for doing anything here to help the patient waiting over a year for an appointment she was originally told by the dentist would be within 6 weeks! So it seems he is not prepared to waste fee earning time on her!
How are you so certain this dentist has done "everything he possibly can".
Do you believe that had the patient been the dentist's relative she would still be waiting in pain over a year for this to be dealt with?
Only 2 parties can be to blame here (possibly both).
Only by complaining to both will the OP get progress.
It's not people like me who make dentists deal with complaints at all.
Dealing with complaints is something the dentist is bound to have to do, without getting paid extra for doing so!0
