A suggestion about this years advents

I only just managed to get some sort of system to do a few for last year's advents (my first one).

So anything that makes it easier for everyone is fine with me. I'm grateful to all who have the time (and energy) to do it.

It is exciting in a "oh my word I need another 48 hours every day to keep up" sort of way!

Hmm yes every time advent is mentioned there seems to be a lot of panicy posters It seems to me it's an event like no other, I think I need to steal Hermione's timeturner from harry potter to help keep up :beer:

As I had a chat the other night with Fnc about advents, he came up with a superb idea, Let me try to explain without baffling anyone.

A new Mse user name is made ie: Advent User, the login is given to several people (volunteers) who as and when they are around can login and slot the added ones into right posts etc, means not one person will be responsible and the thread should always be uptodate, less stress etc, then the login can be left for next year and used again.

Hope that makes sense.

ok, not the last one but i think we need to be sure as does OYL what sort of commitment it is going to take to run the thread and so perhaps it would be better if OYL asked BHG who ran it last year, what it took and why it became so much that by halfway through she couldnt cope with it anymore

then she could ask myself who did it in 2011 and i could tell her, pretty much all of the hours of the waking day, from the beginning of december i never got to enter about more than 30 advents a day myself for the 1st week as everything was kicking off and i was trying to keep on top of the advent thread, after the 12th day period there was a bit more slack and i was able to start entering almost half of what i wanted to and it wasnt until 15-17/12 that i managed for the first time to enter all the advents i wanted to do

so you see it takes a hell of a lot to go solo on this mission and im sure a lot of ppl realise that, which is why last years poll shows the majority of ppl thought it would be best to split it up

disappointed,com that not enough wanted to pay me to do it again :rotfl:

so lets wait to hear back from OYL once she can be certain of whats needed and if she is fine with it, then we/i can wish her all the best of luck

at the moment tho i think the more hands the better and like one-eye's suggestion as to how to split the responsibility, the four volunteers can easily just arrange to make a blank post one after each other on the main advent thread and they will be able to edit their own sections as and when required, its the only way really because theres no way we'll be allowed more than one sticky

yes we did because toniq ran it the year before

i thought about that idea again and wasnt sure if more than 1 person would be able to log in at the same time from different IP addresses, which is what it would require for each person to be able to update their section as and when they could and not wait for another person to log out, but hey ho, if its possible i think the new user should be named Adventeer, kinda like reindeer ya know

That's a very good idea and would help reduce the workload, as it seems like it might be too much for just one user
