Recommend a small smartphone?

Hi all,
I am definitely sold on smart phones now, after using a Wildfire for the last 2 years. However the battery is getting worse, it is a bit slow generally and keeps running out of storage.
What I am looking for is a new smart phone on the smaller side of the market. I think the wildfire is 3.2" screen so I would be happy to go up to 3.5-4.0" absolute max... I don't want a massive thing in my pocket.
It has to be sim free because I already have a sim-only deal for the year. I am looking for something a bit slicker, with decent battery. I know you get what you pay for so I will pay a reasonable amount, I know I wont get much better than the wildfire up to £100. So I'd say I'll pay £100-200.
I look forward to your recommendations, however nothing too big please, I will not be watching films etc on it!
Thanks
James

The Motorola Razr i sounds perfect for you.It has a 4.3 screen but the overall dimensions of the phone are no more than your average 4".
It's £159 sim free from 3 ( that includes a £10 payg 3 sim but you don't have to use it)
It's a fabulous phone....can't be many left now though0 -
thanks, i have just had a look on their website, but can't find that phone. maybe it's only sold in the shops?0

The Galaxy Ace 2 is decent, or of course, an iPhone 4 can be had used for not a huge amount of money.
Smaller than that and you have to ask what smart features would be usable.0 -
I had the Wildfire and liked the size, I thought bigger phones would be too bulky to carry round. I eventually decided to upgrade to a Nexus 4, within a couple of days I barely noticed the extra size, it's a really great step up and the 8gb is £159. Being a Nexus device means it gets pretty good support from Google for updates and has good app support.0

+1 for an iPhone 4 or 4S(?) - mine's heading for retro but small & don't half do the business.
Very much personal taste though. All the best in the search!0 -
cheers, i phone is a possibility but i've never had apple anything before so not sure how i would find it?
had a look on carphone warehouse sim free phones, the following stood out:
-huiwai ascend y300
-nokia lumia 520
-samsung galaxy s3 mini (like the fact its a good phone but smaller version although a bit more than my original budget)
any thoughts on these, is the galaxy worth extra?
a friend was also complaining about the galaxy ace so i think i'll avoid that one0 -
I don't get the i-phone love in,my girlfriend has a 4 (or 4S I'm not sure which) and I was completely underwhelmed by it.Much prefer my Razr i.
They say Apple products are intuitive to use, well whenever I've asked her if her phone does so and so or where the settings are to change something she has to hand it to me lol0 -

I have a Nokia Lumia 520 and I'm really pleased with it. It has a 4" screen which is big enough without being too large, and the battery easily sees me through the day. The interface is quick to use and not laggy at all, and the camera produces better photos than my Canon compact camera! Only a couple of gripes: no compass and no flash for the camera, but seeing as this is the base model I'm not complaining. I have often wondered why people pay lots more for a higher spec Lumia when this one is so good.0
