If they say anything to you when you get home about court, agree to it. It'll shock them and you know they won't get anything from it if they do follow through with the threat.0

why on earth would you let the children play with something so valuable ,, and just thinking out loud, had the ball for example broken your kitchen window,,, would they be quick enough to offer payment!!
it is a foot ball, THEY can provide the children with another one.0 -
Just had a thought...it could become a nice little money-making scheme! You buy a bunch of cheap footballs, write a bogus "autograph" on them and go around lobbing them over people's fences when you know they have dogs. Then you come back later, crying over the loss and threatening them with court unless they stump up the money for a replacement of your "valuable collector's item". :cool:0

That's exactly what I was thinking, especially since it seems the first thing the father did was go on eBay to check the prices of such things, almost so he could go round to OP's house with a shopping list!
Almost like, "Oh no, you spilt red wine on my totally legit Dolce & Gabanna top. I've been on eBay and found prices for the same top, that'll be £499 please
"
Except father has it easier, as OP has a load of budding football doggy fans next door which he knows will go for it, easy money!0 -
Wait.......Wayne Rooney can sign his name?Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

How stupid to be playing with a signed football. I wonder if the kids took the ball without dad's permission? Whatever you do, you need to consider consequences. is it worth the aggro? Obviously he won't get anywhere with any court but would your wife be happy with unhappy neighbours? I think replacing the ball with a run of the mill one is a good compromise. But then state that you won't be replacing another one. (and if it does happen again- tell your wife that she can't "find it" the next time they come round.weight loss target 23lbs/49lb0

What a cheek! As kids we were constantly kicking balls around and often they went into next door's garden. If we were lucky and we asked nicely we got the ball back

Ridiculous - tell him to jog on.0

Don't say anything, don't go out of your way to speak to the neighbour. Ignore it. When he comes around again with the issue, tell him to let you know when he's managed to make his way to the small claims court. And give him his tattered ball back.0

I agree with all of the above. He should control his kids.
I'd agree to pay for the ball if he agrees to the vets bill for having the crappy ball removed from your dogs stomach.
What an idiot.0
