I'd go round and say really nicely that we were not paying for a replacement ball and to never bother us again. I wuld also say that if he ever spoke to my partner like that again, I would ram the ball where the sun doesnt shine.
Sounds like they are trying it on big style.0 -
I do hope you don't incur any vet bills due to your neighbours kicking their ball over your fence enabling your dogs to eat rubber/leather
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Also, I know nothing about football but I would hazard a guess that Wayne Rooney signs a lot of things, and will probably be around for a good few years yet signing lots more. It's hardly likely to be that rare is it?
Regardless of that though, it was absolutely their responsibility to keep it safe if they thought it was worth something. Not your problem at all.
Hope your wife's ok.0 -
I've not seen the ball myself yet but my wife said its still in one piece but is completely deflated. She said she can see it was signed but can't make out what the name is.0

Or for the sake of neighbourly peace, buy a cheap foorball from SD, get yourself a magic marker, his sig aint hard to copy:

Just tell the neighbour you have "contacts" and wink at him.0 -

Still in one piece? Give it back, they can get it repaired.0 -

That was my first reaction, I don't take to kindly to men being aggressive towards my wife on our doorstep.
This isn't the first time a ball has come over the fence, it happened at the end of summer after they had just moved in, luckily I was outside painting my shed so was able to throw it back, it was a race to reach it before the dogs though, they do like a good football to chew on!0 -
The neighbour is being an idiot. The reponsibility lies solely with them of course. What if the ball had landed in a pool of fresh cement instead, would they tell you it's your fault too?
As for playing around with an alleged collector's item...the mind boggles!
Chancers!0 -
I'd say tough tits really. If it was so valuable, why let their kids play with it in the street, especially since it so often comes flying over into your garden?
I'm sure they're quite aware you have dogs as they must be out a lot and unfortunately the ball going over and possibly being destroyed is a risk they take in full knowledge of what dog + ball can equal.
I think you've been more than reasonable in offering to replace the ball sans signature. Give them the punctured ball back at least and if it really is worth so much they can get it repaired.
How do they even know it's a legit signature? Maybe even their father went about it with a black marker and told them it was authentic, or bought it off fleabay for a fiver from a 'legitimate seller.'
Sounds like they're trying to milk you to be honest, ESPECIALLY since he's already been on fleabay. Sounds like someone is doing their christmas shopping.0
