We do not find the cost of hot drinks aboad charter flights and low cost airlines to be too exhorbitant. However the quality is pretty awful. We sometimes buy a coffee in flight because we need the caffine. Food is another matter we steer well clear. To be fair to the airlines they do not have real cooking facilities on board, so there is very little they can do to serve half decent food, especially on flights to Europe when time is limited. Even on British airways the sandwiches taste very chilled.

I think you're very wise to steer clear of the food as I do BUT....they don't need cooking facilities to serve things like small tubs of Pringles and other snacks that I've seen at truly exorbitant prices. They do all they can to take advantage of a captive audience who mostly eat and drink through boredom.
  • We agree the price of Pringles etc are just ridiculous but you have no choice as there is no alternative unless you buy them beforehand, and take them on the flight with you. Alcholic drinks although theroretically they should be duty free again are very expensive. Prices for drinks on charter and low cost airlines seem to have risen out of proportion over the past few years. We would not dream about buying other food aboard but we usually purchase a coffee which is drinkable but not brilliant. As mentioned before the caffine factor has a bearing.
