Cost of drinks and Food on Budget airlines and Charter flights

Depending on the length of the flight, we've often bought a Boots meal deal in the terminal. This keeps us going for a shortish journey. My OH always has a cooked breakfast at the airport when we are on an early flight and that does him. However, on the return journey, we do sometimes buy food on board. An example is the return from Egypt. Thomsons do a roaring trade in bacon baguettes!0

Just curious:
is the answer to this question going to decide which airline you choose to fly with?
If not, what does it matter?
If you're on a flight that you booked because it was cheaper than a competitor, does it matter that a coffee is 10p more expensive on the flight you booked than it is on the competitor flight?0 -
Historically food was supplied on planes as "distraction therapy" in order to take passengers minds off the remote possibility that an aeroplane might hurtle towards Earth.
I'd be very inclined to have a meal on-board a "Dreamliner".0 -
The food is usually pretty "Naff" but we like a cup of coffee. Do not always be guided by the price as the size of the cup can distort the value. Ryanair's coffee is the most expensive and was awful.0

We always buy a bottle of water at Boots or Smiths in the "Airside" departure lounge at Gatwick and take it on the aircraft with us. We often also have a cup of coffee at Pret A Manger before departing. If we are on a flight that is only around 2 hours we do not normally bother buying anything on the flight. However if we are flying somewhere like the Canary Islands we pay the price demanded by the airlines. Our main gripe is if you are unlucky the hot water they pour into the plastic cups is only "Luke Warm". You would expect drinks on board to be a higher price as when flying this is the epitome of a captive market. There is no choice!!!0

I always bring my own drinks as I don't like tea or coffee, or fizzy stuff. For short haul I'd just eat in the airport before and carry on a snack or two.0

Usually on flights we will biy a cup of coffee or tea or perhaps occasionally a mini bottle of wine each. We have to accept the prices are going bto be higher because there is no choice or any competition. Food on other hand is another matter unless we are really desperate following a long delay we avoid purchasing any food on the flight which is always very expensive and poor quality.0

Flying from the UK you can usually get some reasonably priced sandwich in the departure lounge and take them on board. We think Pret A Manger are especially good. However the sandwiches from some European airports are awful. As long as you have the opportunity to purchase sandwiches and hot drinks on board the aircraft then you have a choice. Many airlines often seem to run out especially if you are sitting in the middle of aircraft as one set of staff start from the front and the other from the rear.0

I never thought I would ever say this but have just had cheap coffee at airports. At Heathrow terminal 4 we had filter coffee at 99p at Pret a manger, not bad coffee and reasonable size and at Delhi airport we had Starbucks at £1-05 for the medium size filter coffee.0

We always avoid buying food on the aircraft for short hsaul flights unless we are really desperate. It is usually pretty poor, expensive and sometimes in short supply. To be fair there are very limited facilitieson board to prepare food. We do bite the bullet and buy a coffee but the quality can vary. Lomg Haul flight are a different story as you have to eat.0
