Phew, I've had such a busy (spendy) day, but I knew I would be spending so I managed to get a lot of different purchases done and got myself organised.

I got some clothes, food and shoes, this morning and then this evening we went into the town to the funfair - this wasn't actually scheduled so I have been naughty but friends were going and my 8 year old daughter really wanted to go. It was such fun and not actually that expensive so well worth it I think.

    Food 65.31/500
    NSD 1/25
    Income 0/100
    Christmas presents 14/150
    Travel cards 0/50
    Petrol/Parking 2/50
    Declutter 0/50
    Clothes 189/200.

I've also found out that a local shop is collecting the christmas boxes for needy children (when you fill a shoe box with toys and stuff) so I am going to do a couple of those. I'm going to put them in under the christmas present budget.

Tomorrow will be SF as all the shops are shut (makes it easy).
    Trying to keep in budget.

Hey all, happy Saturday! Well, as predicted it was a spendy day as I got the food shop in... but that was planned. We are doing the Morrisons vouchers so we need to go every week this month to get our free xmas shop, so I think this might stop us getting the full 25 SFDs.

Not much else to report - SFD tomorrow, planting spring bulbs, cleaning kitchen and gym... fun, fun fun!
LBM Aug 2013 - DEBTS AS OF THEN £25,150  now: £0 :j

    Morning all,

two NSD's here :D Yesterday I spent nothing and today I bought my youngest a Christmas present from last months miscellaneous fund, so nothing from this months budget :T

Mon1o-from what I understand, if the spend is already allocated funds, then it does not count :)

Good luck everyone and keep up the good work :T

Thankyou - in that case ive had my first SFD today and from tomorrow will count everyday as a SFD which is within budget. Had a lovely family day today. It was just what i needed!

Hope youre all enjoying the weekend love this thread everyone is really motivating each other its great!!

I think you should check with NSK

This not my understanding of a SFD, otherwise the challenge would not be a challenge as you could just allocate everything at the start of the month.

I think SFDs are when you spend nothing (except direct debits, medication, yellow sticker items, petrol, preplanned and budgeted children's activities).
    LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)
New roof and car £8557/£19003 New kitchen £396/£5039 Credit card Paid Student loan Paid

Clarification would be a big help - I was confused because some other posters have said theyve had a sfd but spent money on planned items. My direct debits come out of a separate account so they dont count for me anyway (if that makes sense?). Fuel, food and misc spending all have their own pots. Yesterday I spent out of these pots and didnt declare it as a SFD. Today I havent spent anything whatsoever so it is a true SFD. I was just unsure as to what I need to count and what I dont.

This is my understanding as well. Any food shopping unless all yellow stickers is a spend day.

    Sorry to disappoint.
    :(

edit: I am the same mon1o so I don't count my direct debits or anything anyways. The only things I budget for is fuel and food and any treats I want (which are non-existant just now or classed as food). Hope this helps.

Thanks Stewby - I'll count SFDs as days where not a single penny is spent on anything - keep it simple and avoid confusion.

Thanks for being so helpful - I'll soon get the hang of it.

Hey, didn't mean to sound harsh, please forgive me if it sounded so. I think if it gets clarified in the first few days then you'll know where you stand.

This is only my second month so I'm no expert, I usually just ask NSK for her view. She is super strict and has achieved so much by being so that I try to follow her methods.

Congrats on the SFD today, I'm still on 0 :(

  • Mon1o... I haven't read all the posts as yet and I will apologise to the other newbies as I'm mostly off the grid on Saturdays. But yes.. An SFD is where no money is used or spent! I will add more shortly to explain the SFD more clearly...
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".

Nae worries. Any questions feel free to ask and we will do our best to answer.
I just thought I would explain how I count it. I like simple, stops me from getting confused so easily. It worked well for me last month. Still had money left on the 30th and even I was shocked!!

My Dad was very impressed though.
    :o

Anyways, I have a question for the batch cookers. When you batch cook, how many portions do you generally make?? I have just completed four individual lasagnes. Is this proper batch cooking or should I be making like 10 or something?? It is just so I don't sound daft or anything.
