Theres no need for this if you are using a reputable company as if the Foreign Office deem it unsafe to travel to then you would get a refund anyway.
Which hotel are you looking at?

I was thinking more if the situation arose where you had to be brought home, say, a couple of days in.
Would you be refunded the remainder?
Or if you're in a situation where the holiday is ruined by some sort of unrest.

Most insurance seems to exclude it so you need to be OK with it
It's not something you'd expect but some places will have more chance of it happening.
I've no idea what the OPs risk threshold is so they need to be aware of any risks
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

From what a fellow Scout mum said, the Pyramids etc are currently off limits but the beach resorts are robustly open for business & secure.
Hope you have a great time (& insurance!)

That's because they're up Cairo and Luxor end where all the troubles are. As are most of the ancient sights. Down the resort end of Sharm-El-Sheikh and Dahab it's perfectly safe though.

  • Luxor and Cairo aren't close to each other (about 320 miles apart) and to be fair, most of the problems were in Cairo rather than Luxor. Luxor is relatively close to the Red Sea area area of Hurghada but there have been no substantial problems here and all is well.
Sharm is on the Sinai peninsula which is more volatile but trouble is generally in the north Sinai and as with hurghada, at the moment Sharm is peaceful. (and a darn site better weather wise than here at the moment!)
At some point soon they may well say that travel to Luxor is permitted but it is going to be a good few months before they say the same about Cairo unfortunately.

  • I didn't find the area that hot really over Christmas/new Year
    travelover
  • Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

We did the pyramids and museums a few years ago and we had armed guards on the coaches even then. This time we're just looking for a beach/resort holiday and not planning to do any sightseeing. The furthest I could see us travelling would be for shopping or markets to any local villages/towns. There still seems to be plenty of people booking to Egypt. We know nobody can predict the future, it seems worth looking at. We haven't got as far as looking at individual hotels yet as we were also looking at Morocco, so that's the next step.

    Thanks again for the advice.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea

The reality is that tourism in Egypt, even in the resorts, has gone down the pan.
Yes,there are great deals to be had but that's because no-one wants to go there.
Hotels in Sharm are running at 20% occupancy and bars and restaurants are deserted.
Faced with a choice between a winter holiday under armed guard with the nagging fear of a Nairobi-style terrorist attack or a carefree jolly in the Canaries I know which one I would choose.

Unfortunately your inflammatory posting style makes you appear a bit of a fool. All decent hotel complexes virtually worldwide have armed guards, just not always so obvious. It is simply unfair on the Canaries to compare the weather as the Atlantic is so windy. As for the 'nagging fear' - that may be in your head in which case I can only feel sorry for you.

OP - no, no issues at all; go, and Joyeaux Noel !
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

There's a reason why Egyptian tourism has gone down the toilet.
    Just read a newspaper.
