I was in Colombia last Christmas. To be honest I found it strange spending Christmas Day on the beach in 35 degree heat, it didnt feel like Christmas at all. Something you have to do once in your life though.

That is exactly why I'm going away :D

Can just see myself now, lazing on the beach with a cocktail in hand ;)

Well I've done it once - but it was to the Antarctic so not exactly warm. Definitely very different, but an experience not to be missed.

And they did manage to make it feel like Christmas.

I've done it once with immediate family, 8 of us in total, the year my mum died. We rented a large apartment and booked a meal out for xmas day. It was lovely, albeit strange but in a nice way.

Having done that, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again in some shape or form in the future.
  • Went to the Thomson Holiday Village in Egypt last Christmas ... It was excellent!!

We had researched for ages to make sure we found somewhere that was good for kids/warm enough/not massive long flight and Egypt ticket all the boxes. Sharm is very far away from Cairo so absolutely no trouble to worry about and we were at the pool and beach everyday (even Christmas day). In Egypt they tend to celebrate Christmas on the 24th as it's a Muslim country and everyone works on the 25th, there was a big gala with lots of food and cocktails and they really went all out with the shows and it was brilliant.

Only thing i would say, make sure the hotel has heated pools because although it is hot enough to sit out in, the unheated pools were a bit chilly for the kids. And remember as it's winter it will still be dark for 5pm.

We would be going back this year but the price is pretty steep, the 2 weeks before xmas are half the price!

    Good Luck!

I've known grandparents go away for Christmas and vow not to do it again while there are children in the extended family.

They had nice holidays but not full value for money because they weren't there for the young family (even if the youngsters weren't coming for xmas dinner).
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
