  • Afternoon all :)

I have a few fairly major savings to declare. I apologise now for the extended essay I'm about to post :)

I will hold my hands up now and declare that whilst being on the MSE bandwagon for a good 5+ years, I am still an apple wh*re, I can't help it, my entire life is on that fruitphone (and fruitpad mini) *hangs head in shame*
I know it's not moneysaving, and an awful expense given that it is technically still just a phone, but I love them, and have been ripped off for the last 4 years on contracts for the things. So had spent the last 6 weeks comparing tarriffs and deals and methods of obtaining a new model without being sucked into a long term contract that will bleed my account dry at £50pcm + a fair whack up front. The best I could do is £99 upfront + £46pcm for 24 months, total due = £1203:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: NO! NO! NO! that's disgusting!!!
So I approached my boss/dad to ask for his assistance in penny pinching and between both our accountancy brains we came up with the following ---> buy the phone outright from Apple, and then stick a low cost sim in it :) no long ties to a network and in 12 months when the next one comes out I can do the whole thing again on the next model, while selling off previous model to put funds towards the next purchase, and thus always having a phone that is under Apple Care & never again being tortured by a phone dying 1 week after it's warranty expires to then spend a further 12 months paying for a phone that makes me want to smash my head against a wall, like this ---> :wall:

Soooooooooooooo thanks to Daddy Dearest finally accepting that my mobile is used more for work than personal things, he let me pop my shiny new fruitphone 5S 64Gb (RRP£709) through the company with a contribution of £236.32 (the VAT and tax relief) leaving me only £472.68p to pay. And an instant saving of the £236.32! KERCHING! :money::D:money:
Because business tarrifs are so unbelievably naff I got the One Plan through 3 for £15pcm for 12 months. Which I was happy to pay out of my wages, as for the last 2 years I've been paying £40pcm for a 4S on the same plan.
But bless Dadzilla's penny pinching heart, he's just told me it's such a pittance to the company he won't charge me for it, and they can claim a couple of quid a month back on the VAT anyway :)
    So that's an additional saving of £15pcm x 12 = £180 :D
So a phone which originally was going to cost me £1203, and which I thought was actually quite a decent deal given that it's only £6 more a month than I've already been paying, has now cost me £472.48 :D
AND my old 4S will be going to Computer Exchange, as the mobile recycling sites are offering pathetic amounts now, and CEX will still give me £205 cash for it :D So at some point this week I'll have to add too, lowering the cost further to just £267.48! :T :T :T That's almost £1,000 off the contract retail price!
But for now i'm only going to declare the actual saving I've obatined, I know there is the logic of "it's money I was prepared to spend to therefore I'm declaring the lot" but I'd rather count the pennies that are still in my account and just be happy that i'll be one direct debit lighter from next month ;) £236.32 + £180 = £416.32 :D

I also celebrated my first anniversary with my dear lady and we went for a lovely lunch and a swanky restaurant. We ordered:
    2x lunch menus = £25.90
    4x lunch menu wines = £31.80
    a couple of side dishes = £9.90
    2 x double espressos = £7.90
    2 x desserts = £13.90
    Total £89.40!!!

But after our main courses we were asked to move to the bar as they were so busy they needed the table to seat waiting guests. So we had our desserts and coffee at the bar. And when we paid the bill .... that was all we paid for! lol When they moved us they started a new tab for just what was ordered at the bar £21.80 :D saving £67.60 :money: I'd like to point out we didn't realise until after we left, and I offered to give my partner 1/2 what she had put on her card, and after 2 bottles of wine each neither of us had actually checked the bill and didn't really care what it said, it was our anniversary and we were celebrating. We celebrated it a whole lot harder after finding out it cost us a tenner each ;)
    So I make that a further £33.80 saving for my 1/2 :p

So for 1 day in town I saved a total of £450.12:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
    Debt@LBM1=£4050 1st DFD 27/08/09 :D Debt @LBM2 =£14,469.97 2nd DFD 14/03/2018 :T
