Thanks - but it is not exactly what I am looking for and at approx £20 per month - silly money
I was wondering why a simple DONGLE was not available ??

There are cheaper ones: http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Devices/Huawei/E5220_MiFi - £10 per month.

You could probably find cheaper ones with other networks too. I only provided that as an example :p

Most of these dongles require full sized USB ports that tablets simply don't have. Also, it wouldn't be in the tablet maker's interests to support dongles when they sell 3G variants for significantly more money.
    What will your verse be?

I have had a look at Tmobile MiFi units - at £7.50 per month for 1Gb data and am confused - why would they need micro SD slots in them - surely they are just "modems" of a sort ?

You'll be telling me next that I should never turn my mobile phone off too ??
Sorry - I do - it is on for perhaps 2 minutes an hour (to allow me to check my email)
My tablet will be off for most of the time - only switched on when needed !!

Indeed I do, how else do you know if someone Tritter, or Friendfaces you, sends you a text, or rings you up?
Anyhoo they don't consume much on standby.
Bet you would have liked the Rabbit phone, you could only make a call if you were in a hot spot.
