Wrong reg number on ticket from UKPC

HI,

Please could you advise on the following. I work at a hospital, where we have staff parking permits. Unfortunately today I forgot to display mine and found a parking charge / invoice notice from UKPC on my return.

However I have noticed that the ticket has the wrong regisitration number on - one letter is wrong.

Would the ticket be valid?

I do not intend to contact UKPC at all, as that is how they get your details, but if they have photographed my car they may realise their mistake.

Thanks in advance,

Jane

The ticket isn't valid to begin with!

And if they have the wrong reg, they won't get your details correctly from the DVLA, so there is next to no chance of them being able to pursue it!

Just hang-on till you see if a NTK arrives, then take it from there. :)

Even if they had your VRM correct on your windscreen ticket, the advice would be to do nothing (especially don't make any contact with UKPC) until you receive the Notice to Keeper (you shouldn't get it in the 28 days following the parking incident, but it must be served between day 29 and 56 - so it could be a couple of months of waiting).

However, if they've got a digit incorrectly recorded, then some unsuspecting motorist could be getting an unwelcome Christmas present through the post! :). The DVLA will just send the Registered Keeper details for the VRM that UKPC ask them for. Could be quite interesting.

But plan on the basis that you will get the NtK and do some reading around recent threads (past month or so) to get a feel for how we deal with parking charges. Have a look particularly at the POPLA Decisions sticky at the top of the forum index (again past couple of months of appeal results).

Get back if you do receive anything further.

The ticket is valid (if the correct VRM) as they are acting on behalf of your employer. Clearly you support cars without permits being pursued, as they prevent you getting a space, so refer it to your line manager to arrange a cancellation as some poor sod is going to get hit (if the VRM is still a valid one) and that isn't fair on them.

(Although I accept it is the PPC that caused it).

Putting your head above the parapet in this situation is not something I'd recommend unless there is a track record of a guaranteed management ability to get this charge cancelled. So if you're even thinking about doing this I'd be asking around with colleagues to see if there is any reliable evidence that you can get it cancelled easily.

The advice is always wait for the Notice to Keeper to arrive, if it doesn't or it's beyond 56 days then it doesn't comply with pofa 2012. You will probably hear something as they have probably taken photos and will correct themselves.
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

jane,,relax, nout will happen, wrong reg simply means, that you will not get any corespondance, full stop,as if the dvla give details for incorrect reg (if there is such a number) it certainly wont be coming to your address,,,also i worked in hospitals for over 30 years, spent lots of time telling staff/visitors about these fake tickets, but as you forgot to display your pass, wouldnt it be beneficial if the hospital issued passes that stick on to window, rather than actually having to place it there every time you park,,just a thought,as alot of hospitals do it this way tthese days.worry not, wrong reg just sums the clowns up.

Thanks for all the replies - and so quick.
My initial thoughts are that they will realise their mistake when the paperwork and photograph doesn't match - but will take some time?

The pass is one for the windscreen, but I dont have it fixed, but on a card so the failure to display is my fault.

Annoyingly I work across two hospital sites, both run by the same trust. At one site, parking 'attendants?' can check your reg number, so even if you have forgotten to put your pass on show, they know you are staff and leave a 'friendly message' on the windscreen, but a the other site a few miles away they dont have that facility and a more draconion enforcement policy.

Management are not interested in redressing the balance. Presumably because, as with most things in life, someone is getting a nice thick brown envelope.

I will wait and see what happens.
