I was induced twice; second time was much easier than the first. pessaries and waters broken in both cases but second was a lot quicker and a lot less painful. Baby weighed over 9 lb!

I was induced with DS2, and if I wasn't considering a HB this time, I would almost ask for it again.

My labour was 3 hours (from when contractions started). I was on my third pess-thingie, and I didn't have a drip. I had the first at midnight, second at 4am and last at 7am.

Things did progress really fast though, in that I nearly delivered completely on my own. DH ran out to find MW and I got to the stage where I couldn't hold onto DS2 any longer (I had my legs squeezed shut, and was try to keep my bum shut too, sorry tmi). MW came in and I turned over onto my back, opened my legs and DS2 shot out. He was lightening fast in that I had only been given a pethadine jab a few minutes early, and I have to say, 6 years on, the child is still going at 100 mph.

That compared to 22 hours, I would take any day.

I'm so confused! I'm dreading tomorrow, I think they're going to check how favourable my cervix is and if I'm already dialating theyll break the waters and if not then I get the pessarys or the drip  I'm also worried cos ds was a big baby 9lb8oz and I'm a size 8 lol, they say your 2nd is bigger and I'm worrying about the logistics of actually giving birth to this baby if I go much more overdue. If I go in can I consent to just a pessary being given but not having my waters broken? Or having my waters broken but not the drip?

    thanks for your replies xx

My second baby was smaller than my 1st, by 6ozs! My first baby was 5 and a half weeks early, and my second 11 days late.
So the later baby was smaller. So not all second babies are bigger.
  • thanks :D I'm hoping that as my first was a boy and this one is (apparently) a girl maybe she'll be a bit smaller??!! I'm still planning on going in today but I'm not sure what I'll "let" them do. It always helps hearing other folks experiences tho, so thanks for all your replies xx

I went in the night before - silly hospital rules 13 years ago! I had pessary about 10am. I was convinced nothing was happening. They planned on giving me a second pessary at 4 pm but examination showed I was 3cm dilated. I couldn't believe it as I'd had no pain, only felt a need to keep walking!

Broke my waters at 5pm. I asked for an epidural before they broke my waters as it had been so painful last time, got the epidural about 5.45pm. He was born at 7.27pm!

I had a 9lb boy, followed by a 7lb girl, so you wont necessarily have a big baby......but it's not the weight that matters, it's the head circumference apparently, because that's the bit that doesn't 'squash'. (If you think about it, once the head is delivered, the rest comes out with one push normally, even if it's a big baby).

I was induced with my son and it was a horrible experience, purely because I didn't understand what was happening and didn't realise you could ask questions....seems silly now but I was a nervous first time Mum.

With my daughter, I felt in control, knew what was happening, and I actually enjoyed giving birth! I'd do it again right now if I could. So it's possible to have a really good birth experience even if you've had a not-so-good one in the past.

Good luck and can't wait to hear that she's here!

I got a Pessary at 8am in the morning. Then was allowed to walk around the hospital - I was getting painless irregular contractions. Then at 2pm was given another Pessary. the Midwife/Healthcare worker/Cleaner - whoever did it - caught me with the Plastic and really hurt me. I was then sent off around the hospital again.

It got to 9pm and I was getting contractions that were hurting me and so they gave me some Paracetamol and told me that they were far too busy to fully induce me that night but they would do it in the morning - I was having Twins. So, they told hubby to go home, told me to get comfy (I was in agony) and !!!!!!ed off. 5 minutes after this I was in agony screaming, contractions were coming really fast and my MIL was asking someone to come but they didn't - 20 minutes after this, of being ignored... my waters broke and I was screaming. Still, being ignored. Only, it turns out it wasn't my waters breaking - I was pouring blood. Eventually, my MIL shouted that I was haeamorraghing and could someone PLEASE come and help.... well when they realised what was happening... 3 came in and I smugly told them I had TOLD them I needed help. Wasn't that smug though... was in crucifying pain!

My first labour was fantastic - should I do it again, I would refuse to be induced. I had a nightmare Labour because of it I believe.

I expect the OP has alredy gone in now but anyway ........

DD2 was 10 days overdue and the hospital wanted to book me in on Xmas Eve to be induced. I refused point blank. No amount of persuading would change my mind and I got the impression that they thought I was just plain stupid.

Anyway, I agreed to be booked in on the 28th Dec but DD arrived on Xmas Eve of her own accord. After she wwas born I was told they had booked me a bed. To which i replied they could unbook it cos I was going home.

After DD and I had been checked over by the doctor off we went home 6 hours after she was born. Both perfectly fine.

Don't do anything you don't want to. Good luck
