woodburner and flames - silly question

suered - not bothered with a fire tonight, thanks for the link - seems fairly competetively priced and were within the 15m radius so may well give them a go - we haven't got a log store yet - its the next thing on the list.0

Am avidly reading this thread as OH wants one of these. I don't want one because I think they'll bring spiders in (with the logs).
Don't want to take OP's thread off topic, but has OP noticed increase in spiders indoors since having woodburner?
EDIT:
Thanks both for the reply re spiders. That's good to know.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
ian103, logstore before logs
I've got 3, ranged along the side of the garage - the sides of one is an old shed door split in 2 and sides of the other 2 are from one side of next door's ex-garage door (saved them taking it to the tip!). Then each has 3 "shelves" - made from pallets. They're all cross-braced at the back for stability. No roof as they're under a car-port type of arrangement, but otherwise they would need one. If you can't scrounge any old doors, I've seen plenty made purely out of pallets - just means a few more screws.
thistledome, I honestly haven't noticed any more spiders. There are plenty outside - but no more than before, and if you bang the bits of wood together before bringing in to the house I would imagine any of them with any sense would leg it - and the others would get crispy . . ."When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus0 -
Spiders shouldn't be a problem if you bang the logs like saured said above. However, occasionally I have had a few giant wasp/hornet things flying around. Apparently, they hibernate in holes in the wood and come to life when brought indoors.
Just found a naff pic of one I caught in a jam jar with a penny for scale...0 -
suered - we've got a fairly dry alley way and a tarpaulin to start with, the house is a project - the inside is sorted now, but outside is another matter - probably 12 months away. I had looked at another log supplier who advertises on local radio - they supply the logs bagged so a bit easier to handle but more money and after the experience of bagged logs (may be unfair - we'll see now the winds seem to have calmed down) no sure I want to have 20 or 40 bags of logs that don't burn well0

If anyone has an Aldi near them, this Thursday they have heat logs £2.99 per 10Kg box very low moisture content, if you want to see how your burners go with a good log. There are better ones, Hotties and there are worse ones but, the moisture content is always the same, low. Last winter, quite a cold one, a hundred boxes of heat logs lasted me all winter, November-April, for a cost of £290 delivered. The best thing I found was you can stack them very high so take a lot less room, roughly one metre cube. I stacked them in a spare bedroom, my house is all on one floor.
AND NO SPIDERS0 -
I'll be trying the Aldi heatlogs on Thursday. They are made in the UK so no shipping them in from far off places etc.
I am presently trying different Heatlogs from various places, to find the ones that suit my woodburner and wallet!0 -

Are tesco still doing the heat logs? I might get some this weekend as I've got plenty of clubcard vouchers to spend. Also might get some of the aldi ones to try too if they are only 3 quid and it's on the way home.0 -
