M42 Speed Cameras
Hi,
I was driving home this evening along the M42 and believe that I have caught by a speed camera as it flashed twice.
There was a variable speed limit of 60 which was in force as I was coming up to the camera section but I didn't notice so ended up going through it about 74-76 miles per hour as I didn't realise I was being quite heavy footed.
I've never been caught speeding as I try never to speed on any roads and I've held a clean license for 10 years now. Does anyone have any experience with this? i.e. whats the likelihood of fines, points etc and I've read this evening about 'speed awareness courses' as alternatives to points/fines.
Any help would be much appreciated as if the only option is points/fine I am happy with this as it was clearly my fault but I'd prefer to keep a clean license obviously as I am a careful and safe drive 99% of the time.
Thanks all

Nothing to do but wait and see what happens.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

If the limit was 60mph then 74-76mph is too high for a course in the Met Police area.
Not sure about elsewhere in the country.0 -
Normal cut off for a course is 10%+9 over the limit, so up to and including 75 in a 60.
Most speedos overread so if yours said 74-76 your true speed was probably a little lower.0 -
Sounds like you may hear something through the post, 2 flashes will calculate your speed unless your vehicle is hidden by other vehicles behind you. There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0

except when you are driving like this:........ variable speed limit of 60 which was in force as I was coming up to the camera section but I didn't notice so ended up going through it about 74-76 miles per hour. ........
bloody great red signs above every lane, how can you not notice? The mind boggles...The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
which part of the M42?
As far as im aware there arent any cameras on the M42, certainly not double flashing gatsos. I have often done 75 when they are still showing 60 from morning rush hour and never heard anything..,0 -

Think if you dont get anything within two weeks youve got away with it. But dont pretend not to speed when clearly you do.0

Well, quite.
The lack of "care" and "safety" is not necessarily in the speed - it may very well have been perfectly appropriate for the road and traffic conditions. It's 100% in the failure to spot sockin' great big bright red numbers over each lane, combined with a lack of awareness of the speed.
I wouldn't have said "Exceeding The Speed Limit" was the OP's greatest offence, but "Careless Driving". The older "Driving Without Due Care And Attention" offence spells it out much better, imho.0
