plusnet deals for all?

Options
Hi- is anyone with Plusnet for broadband & phone & if so have you tried changing to another package that is advertised online but are then told it is not for existing accounts?
Is this normal practice?

  • This normal practice for many companies - not just Plusnet.
They can have differing offers for new and existing customers.

    It's a little sharp though, I agree.
  • It's always worth phoning customer services (thinking of leaving option) and ask for the advertised deal - often successful.

I went via Customer Options in July -and got virtually the new customer deal for 12 months for broadband but also kept my free weekends/evenings package with Line Rental Saver:j
  • I've got my MAC code to see if that might do anything but all I get is "Plusnet have been voted for best customer service-if you go elsewhere it won't be as good".
I was emailed some of the current deals but the latest 12months £2.99 broadband deal is not for 'existing accounts'.I have asked for what reason but am waiting for a reply....
Short of actually leaving it seems, for myself anyway, I can't get the better deal I am actually after-good old customer service!
Funny thing I find is I was with Talktalk before Plusnet & I found them to be no better or no worse, just felt like a change of a supplier!
  • You could switch to a firm like AAISP for a month, and then go back to Plus.Net, that time getting the 2.99 deal.

I am a customer, and have been for 10+ years, and do get a bit peeved whenever I see superb deals for new customers (such as the one back in January, for the fibre unlimited data service at half price for 6 months plus £90 cashback)... only for new customers, of course!

Suspect if you do get one, it will be to "build market share". It only works by encouraging customers from other ISPs to switch.

I think it's a bit depressing that some of these nice deals have no comparable "thanks for being a loyal customer" reductions for existing customers. However, I suppose their commission system is one thing that can help. I've saved over £400 over the years (sometimes it was payment direct into my bank account, mostly a reduction in cost each and every month). If I could get say 1000 new customers, I might be paid up to £500 a month (and let's face it, getting that month after month would be worth a little effort in marketing the service initially...)

    It's pretty much the same (for getting new customers) with the mobile networks, with cashback deals of £100 and more {for the more costly contracts}

Although now that Three has dropped their pricing for PAYG and the One Plan, they're offering no cashback, perhaps because the customer is making a drastic saving, so I guess they feel that rather than charge £25/month and give over £100 as payment for a new customer, the lower price alone will be enough to encourage users to switch.
  • ..which always leaves me in a dilemma..

I'm with Plusnet and have found them absolutely excellent..On the extremely rare situation I've had to contact them my issue has been sorted quickly and easily..

I've been with the stinkers on broadband before and although this is a Money Saving site I just don't want to risk changing to another provider to save a few quid and end up back back in the bad old days of slow or failing connections, Indian call centres reading from a script, invoicing problems and trying to get MAC codes for a fee or like getting blood out of a stone!

I've been with Plusnet since 2010 and have always been very impressed with the deals they offer and their customer service that is until the last few months. Unfortunately they seem to be going the way of other suppliers where attracting new customers is more important than retaining the ones they already have.
  • Well, I've just had a reply from Plusnet & it seems they will put me on their newest 12 month deal so I'm more than happy as this is what I wanted.
I will keep an eye on my account to make sure that this happens.
It seems a lot of faffing about to get a good deal-it would be better for companies to automatically offer these deals to all accounts as in the end it can leave a bad taste in the mouth.

All credit to Plusnet though if this comes off.

Home insurance renewal has just landed on the doormat-more fun!!

Is the cashback through Quidco for the Unlimited Fibre + Phone only £20?

Why would they give £100 for the unlimited broadband and not for the fibre?
