Help with error message on the net please.

Good morning.

I’m wondering if you could possibly help me.
The past 3 days we’ve had half our internet access. When doing any searches from G00gle we’re getting an error message saying “g00gle cannot find xx site”

We have tried the following with no success:-

Reset our router
Checked the E cable
Contacted our provider
Reset G00GLE

Yet we’re still getting the same results. Our provider said that their getting a message saying our box is faulty and is sending a new one out, But I cant understand how that would only give us selected web pages.

We have a desk top computer and its windows xp. Is there anything else I could try?
Many thanks in advance.

  • Google can't find them or your browser can't find them?
can you go straight to sites without Google as in https://www.bbc.co.uk as your Google page could be cached so you're not actually going to Google on the internet.

    If you do
start > run > cmd (ok) > ipconfig (enter). Do you get an IP address?

do the start > run > cmd and then ping https://www.google.co.uk . do you get a reply, a timed out message or a destination unreachable message?

    After checking as above, and assuming you can get some pages;
When doing any searches from G00gle
Check that you haven't got a redirect.

In Internet Explorer == Tools > Internet Options check your home page.

Also on the General tab select the "Change search defaults" and see what that is set to. If it's MySearchDial or similar it will cause these issues.

Download Ccleaner and remove temporary files. Also check for registry issues.

Also check the top of the forum for instructions on removal of malware and viruses.
  • Thank you both for the replies.

Its not letting me go to any websites at all. just the google searches come up. Even if I type the full address in the top bar I still get the same messages.

I tried with our ip address as suggested and again got the same message? I'm trying the suggestion about IE now? Anything else I might be able to try?

PS: scans & malware are showing as clear?

not sure what you mean by 'tried with our IP address'.

but did you do the second part of what I suggested and if so, what happened?

Is there any particular reason for using g00gle rather than google?

  • The reason I edited the spelling of google was I wasn't sure if it would be classed as advertising. Must say very helpful post

All I got was the same error message with the IP address. If I have done it right of course. I'm rubbish with computers therefore not sure if i'm doing it right at all :o

Thank you for the help so far.

    .

    same error message as what?

your original error message is your web browser giving you an error message.

what IP address did you try and where and how and lots of other questions. I asked if you could do two specific things that wasn't using your web browser so it can't give you the same error.

    Can you try these again
start > run > cmd (ok) > ipconfig (enter). Do you get an IP address?

do the start > run > cmd and then ping www.google.co.uk . do you get a reply, a timed out message or a destination unreachable message?

and reply with what happens when you try.

Aha. I understand. I think "Google" has almost entered the language now for any internet search; like "Hoover" and "Biro" for their respective products. Some companies seem more protective of their trade names than others, though.

  • when following the instruction you gave me about getting an ip address it showed 2. Not sure if it normally does that. I tried both and I got "you have been timed out"

So I know what you mean, Was does ping google part of your message mean please? I was told by my service provider that I need to remove the browser..? Totally confused.

    Many thanks for the help.

IE, tools internet options, advanced, reset, ok

    how are you posting now?

ping sends a message to google or any website, the website should reply, if it works, it proves your net connection is working, if it doesn't, it's not

suggest ignoring the remove browser idea.
