Clydesdale Bank Application

Options
I like the sound of the new Clydesdale Direct current account. I applied online, but only basic details are asked for and you have to choose the time of day for a call-back. Anyone know how long they take to get back to you?

I'm resident in England but chose Clydesdale rather than Yorkshire because, strangely, of the two almost identical banks only Clydesdale allow you to pay into your account at a Post Office.

  • I applied for the Yorkshire Bank account yesterday morning and am still waiting. With the offered interest rate I suspect they may well be busy.

You can get an account setup the same day if your telephone them.

Note that the form you fill in is just an enquiry form.

Took about 2 days for them to respond to my online enquiry? see other thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4798346

As Gromitt says, you can do it much sooner if you call them. 0800 numbers in above thread.

Thanks for that, have just been on the phone to them using the 0800 number. It took around half an hour but now have a Clydesdale Current Account Direct with overdraft facility. I was offered either a Yorkshire Bank or Clydesdale version - I chose Clydesdale because I will be able to pay cash & cheques into a Post Office. I'm using the 7 day switching service and closing my old account.

They verified my ID online so I don't need to produce any documents.

Looking forward to using the account now!

Grabbed one for myself now too... drove over the border to do it and a very nice woman took me through it even though I didn't have an appointment. Am moving house next week so that created difficulties in doing it over the phone - had a very pleasant day driving in the sunshine.

Can't get a second one but hey ho!

Just wondering why you didn't open the same account at the Yorkshire Bank in Newcastle?

Cool. It'll be interesting to see how the 7-day switching service will work - especially with the originating bank being Metro Bank!

No. The branding is purely cosmetic. The Yorkshire and Clydesdale are the very same bank. You can have one sole and one joint account.

Just spoken to Clydesdale asking why I hadn't received the paperwork to sign, given that I applied, and was accepted for the account last Thursday and I am using the seven day switching service. I was told that the seven days starts from when the account is open, and that could take two weeks. I suggested she might have incorrect information about the switching service, but was assured she was correct.

Surely this isn't right, is it?
