Hi, Just to clear it up
Myself and my brother run a business, my dad was working as self employed but working through us and he was the registered owner/seller. The business didnt employ him or buy/sell the van0 -
Unless it was VAT margined, it was a private sale, all commercial vans are only exempt for VAT if sold by a private individual.
So, hard luck to the buyer, he had the option given to reject the sale but decided to re-negotiate the price.
Had he found it was just a £5 thermostat would he called you about the £195 he had negotiated wrongly ?
He bought the van in a private sale, it is his van now.Be happy...;)0 -
We aren't VAT registered, so no VAT added to the van
Not sure how the works being a potential asset, but it was in my dads name and it was his Van to sell.
Thats what our first mechanic said it was, the thermostat, we had no reason not to believe him as it worked fine for us after that until they came! Typically0 -
so OP you had the overheating fixed and have the paperwork which you gave to buyer. so in your eyes van fixed and running, buyer comes to inspect and it overheats so you sell him it with a £200 reduction to allow him to get it repaired, which he agreed too.
a week later the head gasket goes. yes the overheating is a sign of this going to happen, but at the time of sale this had not happened.
the buyer has no comeback as a head gasket could go anytime and he took the van knowing about the overheating. If he was a mechanic as he claimed then he should have know the signs0 -

The pretty much sums it all up and is what happened, I genuinely dont know much about cars, so yes as far as I was aware the overheating had been fixed until they saw it, then offered us £1400 because of this and we said jog on, they then agreed to £1800 knowing it was overheating and left0 -
We did actually welcome viewings too, we suggested viewing before buying !0

I've got a feeling he might even be making it up. If he offered £1400 that's £600 less than the original asking price. Funny he now seems to have had a problem costing £600!0 -

This did cross my mind too
The irony is when we bought it, and test drove it was fine until 20mins or so down the motorway and then it was an RAC visit, so perhaps there was an issue. We had the thermostat done and it worked for us since and I personally drove it for 30 miles, it also had a new MOT done on the 1/10/13 and passed that too! so in ouir eyes was all good0 -
Here's a guide to over heating on that model:

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
