Software Not Included

Hi

I have just bought a new laptop and in the details on Currys website it says that MS Office was included, this was a deciding factor in choosing this laptop.

It has just been delivered and it turns out the MS Office included is just a 1 month free trial, after that it is £109 to buy it.

Currys website said it was included, but didn't say that it was just a free trial. It was very misleading and now the laptop is not fit for purpose. Yes I could buy MS Office but that's another £109 when I bought this laptop on the understanding it was already included

Where do I stand?

Thanks

Do you have a link to the website offer?

Ad says it is included, have you spoken to Currys?
  • I have emailed them
  • I took a screenshot and included it in an email to customer services

That's clear as day - it says MS Office 2013 is included. A "reasonable person" would assume that was NOT a trial version.

Fall back position - check out LibreOffice.
  • They have said it is my fault because if I had ever bought a computer before I would know that it is only trials that are included but they can see why I assumed that, but they're not going to do anything about it, they are going to amend the website to make things clearer, but I can have a refund if I want

The box itself will say Office 2013 included (and won't have a caveat about being a trial) which IMO is very misleading - looks like Currys have fallen into the trap of copy-pasting the manufacturers description and it's come back to bite them.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Refund is about all you can hope for.
  • I asked to be put through to customer services and quoted how they had fallen outside of Trading Standards guidelines and they are sending me a voucher to cover the cost of a Home and Student 2013 package.

I should have phoned them to begin with but I thought it would be easier to email them with a screenshot as proof.

Anyway, it's sorted out now to my satisfaction. Thanks for backing me up, it gave me confidence to be state my case with them
