The only bet I'd take on btc at this stage is that the money printing cartel will move to shut it down if it ever becomes a threat to their empire.

I do some low level mining and have an interest in the subject but that's the extent of my investment in it.

But strangely he opted to take that in cash not bitcoins. Bizarre!

This strikes me of a much more level-headed approach than dryhat's gung-ho arrogant and condescending posts. I also think you are spot on about the likely reaction of the money-printing cartels.

That surely must be proof that he is clueless, and that he would have made around 1900% more if only he had seen the light. tz tz tz

    It's a forum bet

How does a forum bet work then? I have been here for some 8 years now but this is still a new one on me.

Do you mean nobody is lodging their money or their bitcoins anywhere, and it's all just a figurative expression? If so, it doesn't sound you are really as convinced as you said you are less than an hour ago.

Well, I'm sorry if I came across as such. But when you describe Bitcoin as an "internet fad" it does show a complete lack of understanding.

I could talk about Bitcoin all day. In all my posts on this forum about Bitcoin I have answered any questions and dispelled any myths with patience and courtesy.

My sarcasm only surfaces when I have to respond to unfounded criticisms based on a lack of understanding.

So if you (not you, but posters in general) don't understand something, instead of going on the attact or taking the p155, just ask a question and I or someone else will answer.

I'll rephrase it for you ... it's a bit of fun.

Or "forum reputation" if you like.

How should people tell when what you say is 'a bit of fun' as opposed to when you mean what you say?

Where's that thread from the chap who had his current account locked right after he had receive money from some bitcoin fraudster? He never reported any unlocking afaik. In fact, he abruptly stopped posting from what I know.

It's an undeniable fact that criminals such as drug dealers and money launderers love bitcoin. Its regulation-free nature is the nirvana of the underworld. Honest bitcoiners will have a tough job to ensure they aren't getting inadvertently caught in the quagmire. For just only that reason, I am out too!

EDIT: here we go, found that thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4580975

indeed, whatever the investment pros and cons, anyone who uses this currency is helping the criminal fraternity in popularising this system.
