A lot of the Kitchens available are much of a muchness. B&Q, Wickes, Homebase, MFI to be honest you can probably find something you like from all of them. What really matters is who fit's it and the quality of the work. I bought my kitchen from Ikea but my fitter was recommended by a friend. He often fits for MFI and did a top job for me (when he wasn't cursing the lack of service voids at the back of the cabinets and all the drawers I had bought as they were so cheap !!!). So my advice is find the kitchen you want and sort out a fitter or find a fitter then get him to sort out supply as well. Often he can get units cheaper than you can source them and some of the saving may be used to subsidise the fit cost.

Have to agree with you stash. All too often all you hear is the negative comments regarding MFI fitters, do not tarnish every MFI fitter with the same brush. Yes I am incredibly biased, my hubby fits for MFI and has fitted kitchens for 25 years and I do not dispute MFI do have some bodgit and scarpers on their books. However my hubby prides himself on his workmanship and a satisfied customer at the end. If anyone is considering an installation from MFI why not ask the fitter for references, a 'phone call to a previous customer during a pre fit survey can allay any fears you may have. If the fitter is uncomfortable with this then doubt his credentials, seems sensible to me. People do not buy white goods or cars for instance without recommendations, just look at this forum. Apply the same rules when you employ a tradesman, especially when you're likely to be spending your hard earned cash on a dream kitchen.

But isn't this why you're getting MFI in to fit it in the 1st place? IE a big name that you "trust". I'm sure there are good and bad ones out there, but it's MFI's responsibility to check and vet them, not the consumer...

MFI do vet the fitters monkey, however it is my judgement I trust on a tradesman and not what a company or salesperson provides or says to secure a sale. A customer surely needs to know what type of person is walking through their door. When buying a car from a large manufacturer, do you take what they say regarding the reliability etc at face value, no you do a little research and come to your own conclusion regarding your purchase, anyway just my opinion each to their own I guess.
Off thread a little but hooray finished my exams today, here comes uni sept, off down the pub now for a few beers..

    Hi,

As far as I know it should be a in public records some where. But finding it may be difficult.

Try https://www.Experian.co.uk - but you may have to pay for it. Or try searching "county court judgements against mfi" in google etc.
One word of warning, legal expenses can be very expensive up to £200 per hour.
Check your household insurance policy - you may have legal advice and some insurance companies cover legal costs to quite large sums.

    Hope this helps.

My in-laws had an MFI kitchen, nothing wrong with the kitchen itself but the CS and the quality and reliability was appalling. They said they wouldn't use them again, even if it was free.
