My they have planned an Asian buffet (with something for all palettes) of about 30 dishes catered by an London based vegetarian Indian restaurant/catering company who specialise in vegetarian food.

Sounds amazing! though admittedly I am a veggie. There was an episode of River Cottage Veg that did catering for a veggie wedding and didn't tell the guests there would be no meat.

I would only offer veggie catering - if someone would only attend if I served meat they are unlikely to be the sort of people I would be friends with anyway - luckily most people are more open minded and eat a range of foods.
  • I am a vegetarian of 25 years for various reasons, my dad, sister & niece are also veggie, but I would not dream of having a vegetarian wedding.
Although I love Indian food, and a vegetarian buffet sounds great for me, I would be conscious of spending a lot of money on something other people didn't love. not only would it all be vegetarian it would also all be Indian. and perhaps not to everyone's taste.
It is always the bride and grooms choice but for me i think more choice ( inc meat) is better!
good luck in whatever they decide!

Also - to answer questions about what food would be available, they have planned an Asian buffet (with something for all palettes) of about 30 dishes catered by an London based vegetarian Indian restaurant/catering company who specialise in vegetarian food.

I would love this and I'm a meat eater. OH however would not find anything he could eat there. However, no-one he cares about would invite him and not provide a meal he would enjoy.

I really don't think they're catering for all palates. I suppose it depends on WHO their guests are.
  • No problem just stop off at a nearby Kebab shop on the way home and have a large Doner kebab and chips.
    Sorted.

Yes its always good to keep vegetarian diet as for people who are veggies plus people who are non-veg eaters could eat veg, but people who are vegetarian can’t eat non- veg so there is a difference, And also you could spend less on a vegetarian diet rather than non-veg, Also its healthy to eat vegetarian food.

If you are a meat, veg and 1 spoonful of peas or carrots meat eater like some older people, the fibre in a veggie meal may not agree with you and while healthy in the long run (as is any balanced diet) in the short term it can be an unpleasant experience for someone not used to it; much like any other dietary chnge it will have side effects.

They're will always be family members who object to your wedding plans whatever you do, it seems very hard for some to accept that its not their party.
My in-laws objected to us having thai catering but 'no one would like it' but everyone loved it including themselves.

Guests do spend money, time and effort attending a wedding and so I think its important to put on a good spread. Aslong as the vegertarian food is good quality and well prepared with a variety of dishes, flavours and textures then its a fine idea. Generally people like cheese, pastry and chocie so plenty of that will go down well.

There are some of my friends' partners who I have not shared enough meals with to know whether they would hate a veggie Indian buffet. It wouldn't mean I didn't care about them, just that through circumstances I'm not totally familiar with their eating habits!

I think the meal sounds amazing (as a carnivore), and I'd much rather that than some weddings I've been to where there has been no choice and I've ended up with lamb or smoked salmon, both of which I hate.

As has been previously posted, it's only fair to put a non-vegetarian option on the menu as considerate meat-eating people will always put vegetarian options theirs.

If you are paying for your guests to eat, you want to make sure that they are going to eat the food and enjoy it, otherwise it's money down the drain.

Personally, I would select a menu for the guests which covers a broad variety of tastes, e.g. leek and potato soup/melon, chicken dinner/nut roast, and then request that the married couple get a different dish. That way you can please the masses and also then have the meal that you really enjoy, without having to worry about whether others would like it as well.

I'm a meat eater, but i dont like a lot of meat at once, it makes me feel a bit gaggy, i would love to go to a wedding with a vegetarian meal. It sounds fab. I often get a lentil dahl and rice instead of a meat dish when i get an indian takeaway. One night doesnt matter. Makes a nice change.!
  • There will always be people who don't like what you are serving. I would make sure there are some more simple (milder) indian dishes) lots of labels so people know what it is and naan etc to fill people up.
If they want to be really accommodating they could have an extra plate of cheese sandwiches........

I used to be veggie (20 years) but no longer am so I can see from both sides, to be honest good food is good food and that's what counts for me.
Recently married and loving it x
