contract phone with topup?
is it possible to get a contract phone that once the inclusive mminutes/texts are used you have to top up for further calls?
not sure if you can do this but son is using £30-£40 on his mobile and was thinking if he could get one with a big allowance on contrat but with the safeguard that he could not run up a bill.
sorry if this is a silly question

T-Mobile Flex-t sounds like the thing that you want

You sure you weren't confusing it with U-fix?

No flex-t, if the o.p doesnt want to run up a huge bill the flex-t is the best road to go down, cant pay more than what they state, its ideal, if you just want to pay for so much line rental then pay extra to top up with more credit it defeats the object as he could top up loads extra0

You can run up a bill with flext! Theres no way to stop it happenning, and no automatic credit limit or block. Only price plan in existence whereby it will cut you off is U-Fix, half prepay and half contract.0 -

My apologies I thought is was Flex-t that did that. Sorry for any misunderstaning caused0 -
I don't see any obvious advantage of U-Fix unless you are getting a reasonable handset thrown in.
Some network bundled packages on PAYG are just as competitive - eg. http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/genericContent.do?contentId=payasyougo.airtime.bundles.shop.sm0340 -
U-Fix is aimed at parents who want their kids to have a contract phone but also the responsbility with it. With T-Mobile having all the legal rights to this kind of contract, no other network can even try to manage it. Obvious appeal is that you can get your child a contract for £15 a month with a decent phone and then the child tops up after. It's never really been aimed at adults! But when it comes to your yearly renewal, you can get your line rental from as little as £5 per month with a new phone. So it's not all bad!0

I think the O.P doesnt want her son to get a massive phone bill,Pay as you go you can easily run up huge amounts as people I know top up £10 every few days, at least this way they can curb the spending, to may people think because its contract its o.k to use and then when mr postman drops the bill through the door it wakes everyone up due to the size of it !0

I fail to see how this makes any difference? Whether they top up a U-fix deal or a standard PAYG deal is irrelevent. The whole point of PAYG is that you pay up front so how can you run up huge bills? If my child was chucking £10 on their phone every few days I'd need to be asking myself something about my parenting skills.
You are right about contract phones - I've seen several colleagues stung by large phone bills because they have signed up for a contract in their name (one had nearly £200 of gprs browsing in a month).
The cheapest solution is to buy child a huge brick phone - they will be too embarrassed to use it in public and so not make any calls. Ebay is a good source for these

The point I'm making is the parents are most lkely paying the £30-£40 that he is using per month and they want something that cuts off after the certain amount they use, so if they decide £25 is enough for the month then do that, if he needs to add extra in an emergancy then the option is there for them, but if he didnt have the option to do that and had a normal contract then the he could run up a bill as high as he wants, I dont think they want the shock of a high bill and would like to keep an eye on the spending on it. Pay as you can you can monitor this but you can get more mins and texts on this tarriff.0
