I'm having it on the Saturday after halloween - altho this way this is going more of my friends might be free on actual halloween!! Obviously would have to involve less alcohol for a work night though!
  • The Number 13 - perfect for a Halloween party I think!

Stuff the friends who don't go, just make sure you brag to them about how good a time you all had.

Sounds like these friends view your friendship with them quite casually, so perhaps in future you should do the same. Don't bother exchanging pressies any more, stick to cards and you won't be disappointed. Don't put yourself out too much for these people any more.

Think of the positive - you have 13 people that WANT to spend the evening with you, that's to be appreciated. So go ahead and have fun.

PS. its my birthday on Halloween, can I come please? :-D

Maybe its time to consider whether people really do care about Halloween.
Im not into it at all, although if someone invited me to a party and I was free, Id make the effort.

I certainly wouldnt spend £50 on a costume if I wasnt sure that people wanted to come and tbh, if the party ends up being you, your bf and another couple of friends, who cares, as long as you have a good time.

Each to his own, but I personally think Halloween is a load of rubbish.

I'd never want to go to a Halloween party.

I'm another one who thinks 13 is okay for a party ... or you could try having it this weekend if next weekend clashes with a family birthday?

I also think 13 is perfect for a house party. I do think the fact it's a halloween party might be the reason. I don't really know anyone in this country who celebrates Halloween in this way and I do think a lot of adults don't really like themed parties like this. I think people like going for dinner and a relaxed drink, but themes get people tense! I would separate the party issue and the friends letting you down issue in your mind before you make any decisions.

    I feel your pain.

And I've been there - more than once. It does make you feel like rubbish - and I've kind of decided that I can't be bothered going forward, but then that is an unfair decision on my part for all the people who did/do come to things. When some are letting you down, it's easy to lose sight of those who haven't/don't.

I'm sure your party will be lovely. Perhaps change it up a bit if there are less people - organise some games that can break the ice.

I think this entirely depends on the persons set of friends. In contrast to your post, my group of friends/family and I would throw a large Halloween party each year for about 7 years (until we moved to a much smaller house and couldn't host such a gathering anymore) and guests ranged from 18 to in their 40's and enjoyed it in full themed fancy dress.

There will be those who think no-one does it because no-one they know does, then there will be people who are part of a group who regularly hold such a party so for them it's 'normal'.

To the OP, I say go with it!

I bought some chocolate this afternoon ready for trick or treaters. Unfortunately I have now scoffed most of it myself :o. When will I ever learn?
