Rob, as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with what you would wish to do.

But' you will be getting the help of an undertaker to store the body and take it to the cream if needed, and I imagine it'll be the right undertaker for you.

What I was saying was, a good undertaker will help - for most people the thought of 'DIY', including storing and preparing the body is completely too much at a stressful time.

I couldn't understand wanting to do everything myself, not when compassionate help is easily available. The undertaker doesn't have to take it over, but he can be an invaluable help.

i know of one crem that refused a cardboard coffin (coffin cover (tm) ).

any coffin will have to meet emissions regulations.

AIUI they(crem) probably should accept just a shroud but not checked that in detail.

there is a diy coffin tha the parts can be used as a book shelf ideal way to get some use out of your own coffin before you go.

Getmore see my earlier post on this. For cremation the body has to be in a coffin even if it is cardboard yet for burial it can go in the ground as it is or shrouded

I have just got the itemised bill for my Mother's funeral. I think the item that most shocked me was the cost of the hearse - this is just the use of the hearse for a 56 mile round trip from the funeral parlour to the crematorium and back - cost £500!

How can they justify that?

49p per mile insurance cost of driver etc I think £500 is reasonable
