Can you settle a discussion please. Can you transport the body to the cre in your own vehicle or does it have to be a funeral car.

my understanding is that a body can be transported in whatever vechile however it must still remain in the hands of the funeral director....

ie if the deceased requested that it is transported in a transit van or something thats able to accomodate it thats what can happen....however you cant just roll up with a coffin across the backseat of your car to save money I dont think.

Basic funeral packages will always allow for transportation of the body in a dignified and respectful way.

I do know of a funeral recently where the deceased was taken to the crematorium on a trailer which was towed by a pedal cycle rode by various cycling friends.

Where would the body be transported from and to?

Back in the old days, a dead body would be taken from the hospital to a persons home in a vegetable van.

You can use your own vehicle. You could use a hand pulled cart if you wanted to.

Since you don't need to use a funeral director and can make all the arrangements yourself, this seems unlikely.

Worth remembering: a fifteen stone dead weight is a fifteen stone dead weight, which is why a hearse is fitted with rollers and funeral directors use trolleys.

Well you learn something every day....although perhaps if you are dead you may not be able to make all the necessary arrangements yourself!!!

Though seriously where would you find someone or a company who is willing to store a dead body between death and creamation if its not at an undertakers?

Don't you have it embalmed then take it home and leave it in the parlour until the day of the funeral? Obviously turning off the radiator in that room.
