Well, what can I say. That was the best saving of 60 quid a month ever. I have left Sky without falling for their selling techniques. The answer... Tell them that you are moving to Spain.

That's more cash in Lady Loyne's Christmas present fund now
Known Debt at time of the Great Escape - £5,467.85

Tell them lies? To what end? What was wrong with simply telling them, more truthfully, that you didn't consider their services value for money?
While it's true that Sky staff taking cancellation calls will offer inducements to stay, only those who are after such deals have to listen to them.
  • I wish i had used the 'Spain' line :)
I too cancelled Sky last week (as just got myself a Humax freesat) and if i told the Sky advisor once i wanted to cancel i must have told her 7 times!
Since then i have had no less than 20-30 calls from Sky this week (googled the number and it is Sky marketing) presumably to try and get me to change my mind.
It says you can opt out of these marketing calls but when i log into my account it states 'account inactive/closed' and that i can't opt out unless i am a customer!! so useless really.
I should have used the 'moving to Spain'story and i *might* have stopped these annoying marketing calls.

No, you should have simply changed your privacy settings before leaving. It really matters not a jot why you say you are cancelling.

    Who cares?

I just told them I was leaving (Broadband) cause their service was crap. 'Oh but have you heard about ou....' 'Cancel it.'

'Ok is there anything we can do for your servi....' 'I've already chosen who i'm moving onto, so cancel it right now please.'

    Done.

I didn't need to cancel. I just asked if they could send an engineer to reinstall the dish at my new home abroad. They didn't even ask for the address. They insisted on cancelling immediately and were really apologetic. ;)

Yes, this was more or less exactly what I said to them a few years ago. As I said earlier in the thread, only those who actually want a deal need to actually listen to Sky sales patter.

The things is, anyone who tries to cancel their subscription are forced to make the call otherwise sky are not accepting the cancellation. This is a breach of their own terms and conditions that allows you the choice of four methods to place your cancellation ( email, fax, letter OR phone call). How many of you have emailed your cancellation and then told you have to call? Then sky have not back dated your cancellation to the date you notified you were cancelling your subscription? How many of you are aware the call number is a premium rate number and you are paying while sky keeps you on the phone to deliver their sales pitch?

I know they make it difficult but you certainly do not need to pay for the call. There are multiple numbers for sky on http://www.saynoto0870.com/

I cancelled a couple of weeks ago and used my evening free calls to one listed for Sky.

    This has been a cause for concern for quite some time and Sky have already promised swift action to address this;
