What did you add to your turkey zafiro? I've some turkey mince half for a chilli and I was thinking of making parties with the other half.

I used a Mary Berry apricot and chestnut stuffing as a basis. It's really the same weight in chopped chestnuts, chopped apricots, fresh breadcrumbs, and onion plus seasoning. Then I added turkey - mine was cooked, frozen turkey leftovers.
Simmer the chopped apricots and chopped onion for 10 mins, then drain.
Add a bit of melted butter to the breadcrumbs.
Combine everything together plus seasoning, I also added a bit of flour as it felt a bit too wet. Chill in fridge - fry

DH is very fussy with what he eats but this was a thumbs up, so I'll do them again. To be honest I couldn't taste the chestnuts so when I've run out of those maybe something else could be substituted.

    Yesterday 18/1/2017:-

Created recipes from the fridge freezer had = 1.

Still only spent £1 on groceries since my first post. (Bicycle still needs fixing which I use for any grocery errands).
  • Ah sounds good but mum's deathly allergic to chestnuts and she's over all the time so I don't have them in the house. I like the apricot idea though.

Lucky, I do the same thing of eating it until it's used - of cooked meals.

Yay. Eaten everything. Nothing added. I did buy some YS Smoked salmon, but it is dated 24th so I'll eat some over the weekend and freeze what's left.

DH didn't eat his pasty for lunch so he's having that tomorrow. I've got the leftovers from today's HUGE Musclefood Chicken breast with salad.

Out to make curry tomorrow night: 1 portion curry sauce, 1 portion casserole base (bottom of the fridge vegetable pur!e from months ago), some ready cooked lamb, a mini naan bread, a pitta bread and some pre cooked brown rice.

It will make at least 4 portions so there will be some for the freezer. But there's quite a lot coming out.

Only about 4 pieces of Christmas cake left. Oh, it would be rude not to!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have about 20 packets of powdered jelly here I want to use, but its foul tasting as its sugar free (almost tasteless actually)

Would doing something like adding a small amount of sugar make it better, I was wanting to use it as a base for something like milk jelly

I could add some angel delight or dream topping to it but that will cost money.

Taken out of the freezer today
    1 bag of cooking apples
    1 bag of summer berries
    2 rump steaks

The steak will be for tomorrow nights meal with the broccoli, sprouts and carrots from the fridge and either oven chips or jacket potato. Will probably use up another peppercorn sauce out of my cupboard use up box too.
The apples & berries are being mixed with some kiwi fruit that were in the fruit bowl looking sorry for themselves. Made a crumble topping from stores, using butter, flour, sugar & oats and at the last minute found some salted nuts from xmas at the back of the cupboard, bashed them up a bit and added them to the crumble topping- smells divine!.

Tea tonight is leftover meatballs & pasta for the kids, we will have the leftover chicken curry, hubby will have rice and I've just blitzed half a small cauliflower to have cauliflower rice with mine :)
I don't tend to freeze what I've taken out and cooked, I tend to make us all eat it til its finished!
Starting to see some space in the freezer now and my freezer list is still up to date :)

Hope you don't mind me saying but this colour type is very had to read.

  • Deka, I made some up with lemonade to make fizzy jelly - it's not particularly fizzy, but improves the taste.

Well... I forgot to put the spinach in - this happens often, which is why it's still in the freezer. But DS loved the butterbeans. He does really like all beans and pulses, which is handy. I'm very lucky because he's really not fussy, there are just a few things he doesn't like, and he's always happy to try something new.

Unfortunately there's not enough from today to cover tomorrow's tea. I just need to check what we have in that isn't vouched for another day, although the boy would probably be delighted to have beans on toast to be quite frank - hopefully he won't develop a taste for name brand beans!

My freezer drawer has only opened to retrieve frozen veg this week. I got the last big crumble out when DS came for roast dinner on Sunday and despite giving him almost half to take home, we only cleared the remains yesterday. We have also almost used up the chicken pie I made after the roast, cold and curried remains of the humungous chicken I got for £2.59 last week. So net insert was 2 more chicken thighs bought fresh last week in the butcher, before I went to the sm - herein lies the "behaviour" I need to correct. Why did I buy them fresh when there were still 4 bags of two in the freezer? If I am honest I was a little embarrassed at how little I was buying in the butcher. I must remember this ridiculous situation. It won't be an issue this week as I only want fruit, juice, milk and eggs and will store cup-board the rest.
